*updated* Biostar Nvidia nForce2 MOBO $53 after $15 Rebate

Remember to use the code at CompGeeks for an extra 10% off. Again, the rebate should work, per a Biostar employee who answered their rebate hotline.

If you live in No. Cal., do not do the 3 day air... found out the hard way when they told me it would actually add an extra to the shipment.

What I want to know is why all these nf2 boards are getting so cheap all of a sudden. I think they are anticipating for the release of the desktop 64-bit processor next month. I'm not entirely sure but that's how it looks from here. Still at $52 after shipping and rebate, it sounds like a good deal.

Edit: Ugh, I gave in, I couldn't resist this deal. $52 is sweet considering that's what I payed for my SiS 735 board I am using now. Hope it's as stable and long lasting as my SiS board.

I bought this board along with an XP 2500+ to replace a 1700+ on a Soyo K7ADA board that burned up during the tax-free weekend. Picked it up on 8/1, so I should be eligible for this rebate assuming the local Intrex is a valid retailer.

As stated, includes support for 6 USB devices - 1 pair on the panel, 1 hooked up to the board with the included slot header, and the other hooked to the front inputs on my Antec case. I found the manual to be sufficient for an experienced machine builder. No overclocking here, so I'm happy. Doesn't include a fan on the chipset - just a heatsink. Temps are quite lower than with my 1700+ setup.

Okay, my board came in, but I'm still waiting for the DDR to put it all together. I've seen that several people have problems installing heatsinks on the processor because of the close capacitors.

For those of you getting these MBs, what heatsinks are you using, and how well are they doing? I've got the AMD retail on an 1800+, which I am sure will work, but probably not the best for overclocking... Suggestions on a good (cheap) heatsink with a small footprint?

P.S. Daytrader... maybe you could update the thread title to reflect the new prices/rebates for the board?

This was my first biostar. I was about to attempt an RMA because it wouldn?t post. Tried new everything else. As I was getting ready to pack it up I noticed a jumper near the cpu that was not in the manual anywhere. What the heck lets try it with it off. It posts. It appears to be a 100/133 clock jumper. I am running a 1700 tbred. It would not post until I selected 133 (jumper open). There is absolutely zero mention of this jumper that I can find anywhere. I consider myself a pretty good troubleshooter and I almost returned this board. This seems like it would cause a lot of inadvertent RMAs. Anyone here have that problem?

my Athlon 2500 runs at 2400 mhz totally stable with biostar m7ndp. i bought it because I didnt want to pay for crap I wouldnt use like SATA, firewire etc...

works great

Bump, the biostar jumper (actually 100/133/166) was in the online manual. Unfortunately it's not in the printed one. Take my advice, always download, or at least read the online manual and compare it to the printed one. I mentioned the jumper @ nforcers hq also.

The best place to get this board now is compgeeks. They have it for 54$ and you can use a 10% coupon code. Including shipping it comes out to be $55 or so. No rebate hassle.

The non-pro uses the nforce2 400 chipset, same one that the Soltek NV400 L64 uses. Not dual channel. But the board is actually faster, and wins all memory tests but one (this was a review ryan @ amdmb did with the soltek). However, the biostar currently has no multiplier adjustments in the bios. Biostar will probably release a bios with multipliers and voltages for this board soon. For now, go with the Pro (m7ncdp) or the soltek NV400 L64. Shuttle AN35 is also a good deal.

I was thinking abou the Shuttle AN35. Wouldn't it be better than this Biostar?
Someone mentioned a similar priced MSI?

No, not IMO. While the shuttle does have a 12v connector, and s few other things, like a better manual, the boards are alot alike, with the biostar a tad faster. Really, for me it came down to price. If you get the Shuttle you will need to flash to latest bios to get multipliers 10.5-12.5. But they are both great for the money.

Just so y'all know, the compgeeks board is the non-pro version so it doesn't look like the rebate will work with it as it is only valid for the pro version.

This was mentioned a few posts above. Also the rebate links in this thread all point to out of date rebates.

So the 400 is faster than the 400 Ultra? Got to at least have multiplier and a few important voltage adjustments though.
But this thread is 1.5 months old and as others have said the rebate is gone. The shuttle is ~$55 for non pro and ~$60 for the pro + shipping from mwave.

Go for the Shuttle Pro, because the non-pro may not have volts, and multis (yet). The Pro did not either, until the latest bios release. I would get the Shuttle AN35_N for $60.00.

FYI.

I was just poking around the Application CD that came with my board and noticed that the Norton Ghost IS NOT the 2003 version as was advertised and is shown on the CD face. The file date of 10/29/2001 was what got me curious. I really didn't think Ghost 2003 would have a file date in the year 2001.

I copied the file to a bootable floppy and rebooted. At the DOS prompt I ran Ghost and low and behold it tells me that it is:

Symantic Ghost 7.0 Enterprise

Now I knew that we were getting an OEM version, which is what the Enterprise version is, but 7.0 is the old pre-2003 version that DOES NOT support XP's NTFS!

What a rip-off.

A slight correction: the Enterprise edition is NOT an OEM version, it's the professional version, and has MANY more features and capabilities than the consumer version. Whether 7.0 has whatever particular feature you need may be a different story (current version is 7.5)...

Thanks for the correction. I'll pass it on to Symantec - the program authors. OEM is what they called it in their documentation!

However, it still IS NOT Ghost 2003 and CAN NOT perform NTFS operations.

What a rip-off.

I emailed them about the Ghost, and they did not reply, so I posted 3 messages on thier message board/FAQ, anf they just told me that they do not support Ghost OEM at all. In my second question I aid so you have no knowledge of how OEM works? They said emphatically no. I could not get it to w/NTFS either - and im not going to use fat32.

UPDATE

After going round-and-round with a Newegg CSR yesterday, he gave me the phone number to Biostar. I called them and they were aware that the bundled CD does not contain Ghost 2003. They offered to send me a corrected CD. The phone number is:

626.581.1055

We'll see what I actually get...

Good luck.

BTW, I was VERY disappointed with the Newegg CSR. He gave me resistance and/or inaccurate answers at each step of the way. He tried as hard as he could to make it look like I was wrong and/or didn't know what I was talking about. I'd really like to show you guys the messages. It's like they they don't want anything to do with you after the sale.

He might have just been an a$$hole. Lot's of companies, especially tech companies hire very young people and many of them are clueless.
