I was denied a return of a camera memory card at a retailer because they said it was software. I even took it to the manager who repeated the mantra that camera memory cards are software, and their policy was that once software was opened you cannot return it.

I defined software to him, and notifed him that the card was NOT software, but they would not budge, yea I had the big manager.

Anyone ever been told this?
Update:

The manager of this particular store held fast. He inisisted that the XD Card was 'software'. I went to another branch of the same store, and returned the card with no problem.

It seems the problem is with this one store. To that end, I wrote a lengthy account of the affair and sent it to the district manager and to the corporate office. If they really wanted to make me happy, I suggested a simple 20$ gift card to reimburse me for gas expenses driving to the next town. That is all I really want.

I'll eventually name the company if I don't get good results from corporate. So, it really seems to be just a problem with this one manager. I don't like to 'smear' whole companies, until I'm sure it isn't just one clown. That is what it seems to be. At the other branch infact the manager was the one that returned the xd card. After completing the process, I told him about the whole affair, and he laughed about it and walked off saying there was no such policy.

Yea, I argued, called him back quoted their return policy (which did not state this) and they are still denying the return on the same basis.

I'm going to hold off with that until I call a higher up tommorow, if they resolve it or if it was a misunderstanding, I'll just kill the thread. Will update if they hold fast.

You seem really big on protecting a guy who has no business managing an electronics store...

I believe I would have started laughing in his face until they kicked me out of the store. Then I would have gone back with a dictionary and pwned them.

that's way too much work. I'd simply ask for the district/regional managers number, call them right then and there, and buy a coke or something while I am on hold so they know I don't give a fvk how long I wait.

can you atleast tell us the store name if it is a big national store having multiple branches ?

If this would have happened to me, I would be LOLing at the manager right in his face. Should have shown him what "software" is and asked why are memory cards kept in a different place. Did you ask him to show you the "COA sticker" or the "License Agreeement" for the "software" :D (i am so LOLing ;) at the manager while typing this)

better yet, go back and tell him that this so called "software" didnt come with a key to activate it :p
