Wow! I hope it's not too late, but when I saw the picture of the note on the windshield, and saw that the car was a Saturn (thanks to billgates380 for rehosting), I got dressed and went down to my Saturn to see how to open the hood from outside.

You need to lay down on the ground and reach up from the lower left (driver's side) corner of the bumper cover. If you reach up from too far to the right, your hand will end up on the wrong side of a plastic shield.

Reach up to just behind the center of the headlight/turn signal module. Feel for the hood release cable. It's the smooth one, like a bike cable. Any textured cables are just plastic covered electrical wires for the headlight and turn signal bulbs and you don't want to pull those. Pull the smooth cable toward the driver's side. The hood should pop right open. I just hope it's not too late.

PS, no wonder the owner never drives it, stupid Saturns don't get driven more than necessary, since they're not that fun, not that cool, they're loud, they leak in the rain, the interiors and switchgear are chintzy. . . Need I continue?

I'm surprised there's no animal control number you can call.

How the hell does a cat get stuck underneath the hood of a car? If it can get there in the first place, why can't it get out? Unless someone intentionally put the cat in there... which would just suck.

Update, update!

It ran back up under there because it does not know that is a dangerous place for it. From it's perspective it is isolated and protected. What you need to do is remove it from there then decide what your next step is. Just putting it down 3 feet from the car is not the solution because its natural instinct will be to run right back to the protected spot. Once you get it out you can either take responsibility for it yourself, take it to your towns animal shelter, or investigate what rescue groups exist in your area and contact one of them to see if they will take it.

The cat eat, and then just friggin ran back to the car, under the car and jumped back up!!!!!! We spent like 40 more minutes trying to get it out again, but then everyone gave up again. I must admit, this is ONE stupid kitten. I think its just really afraid of humans or something... Its still there, still meawwwwing. I give up 😱
That reminds me of a saying that you'll never see a dead cat up in a tree. It got up there on it's own and it will get down on it's own. With that said, the owner of the car probably doesn't want to spray kitty parts all over the engine bay so he'll probably need to pop the hood to scare it away before starting the engine. Good luck, little kitty...

thats what cats do, run to a place they think they're safe.

and then you pick up the bed they're hiding under because you're moving and the cat goes nuts

The kitten was probably scared and thought that was the only place it would be protected. Maybe you should take it home with you.

Cats are teh animal! 😀

Yeah, i'd love to keep it.. but i am not sure i can. College life and all, but i had a cat in the past.

What city do you live in? If it's not too far, I'd be willing to rescue a second kitty. I already have one that was rescued from a dumpster at less than 6 weeks old. She's turned out to be the sweetest cat ever! I'm going to stop at two though. I swear! 😉

Maybe some ATer near you wants to rescue a kitten?

Anyone?

Yeah, go out there with some food and water again, (splash the water in a bowl, I bet the kitten is thirsty as hell) and take the cat in. If you don't want it, I bet someone here does. If you're only a state or two away from me, I'll personally come and get the kitten Wednesday.

We have 10 cats atm and 6 of them were rescues and 3 more were born from one of our rescues that was pregnant. The latest additions were 3 kittens that were living in a storm drain in our neighborhood. When winter came my wife ended up borrowing a trap from a local rescue group and catching them. It took some work to socialize them but 1.5 years later 2 of the 3 are very social and the 3rd is finally starting to come around. I used to think that 3 cats was a lot lol.
