Updated Again: HTC Thunderbolt, it now has 4G under CM7 test builds

I forgot to mention that the Thunderbolt also has no problem detecting at least 3 simultaneous screen touches in different locations. The Droid X could not do this it was limited to 2. I tested this by trying to long jump in Super Mario 64 on the N64 emulator 🙂

Woops, I meant LTE coverage. You do mean LTE coverage right??

Yep, looks like Verizon was pretty meticulous about it's rollout.

The LTE seems sensitive to building mass, no penetration into the building I work in, haven't been in too many other buildings yet. I get a good signal in Santa Monica in my apt though.

This is something I've noticed about Verizon's service in general over the past year... Yes, it might be a bit more expensive than other providers. But unlike AT&T - the network performance is solid. You can definitely see where your money is going.

Did Verizon mess with everything like they usually do with all Android phones(redirecting to bing and not google, trying to disable the more superior Google navigator over their more inferior Verizon version) or is everything at stock?

Nope, everything is there, Google search widget, Google Nav, some bloatware that we can take off after root...

I'm a little concerned that since they'll likely follow suit and clamp down on tethering like ATT 🙁

Usually? Droid, Droid Incredible, Droid X, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, and Droid Pro didn't have what you're talking about. The only "major" phone they have released with Bing was the Fascinate.

I've never had those phones. I'm just asking to confirm because I've been hearing a lot about that.

Do a search for "Bing" in this sub-forum and you'll see. I know I've read about it from somewhere here before.

All I remember is a lot of people were mad about Bing being on the Samsung Fascinate. It's possible a bunch of low end Androids on Verizon have it but I don't really follow those 🙂

Any ideas why my new Thunderbolt will not sync to google servers? I've been trying for 2 days now with no luck. The manager at the verizon store will not exchange it and I have no other choice but to return it. What happens to my newly ported number/account when I do that?

Call verizon they should fix that for you.

I've been unplugged now for 10.5 hours, and my battery is at 51%. I've been in WiFi for all but about an hour of that, though. Other than that, I'd say it's been moderate usage throughout the day. Checking emails, facebook, plenty of texting, surfed the web for awhile, watched a thunderbolt review video when I was bored, downloaded a handful of apps, checked my RSS feed and bank accounts...

I can live with this, easily. On the rare occasion where I don't have access to a charger for a day or so and I'm in 4G all day, I'll just turn all syncing off. I bought an extra USB/microUSB cable from monoprice yesterday to take to work, but I don't even think I'll need it.

I'm going to leave it unplugged and see if I can make it through the afternoon and the gym tonight.

I gave them a call and talked to the verizon tech support guy for a quite a while. He could not offer a solution other than try to get some support from google on this. This sucks. I guess I will be returning the phone tomorrow.

Have you tried a factory reset or checked for a update in the About Phone settings menu? That's what fixed my Droid X when I got it.

are you still getting 16mpbs?

I'm getting 12.47 mpbs in my apartment with 3 bars, although it doesn't seem to vary too much with signal. I have a signal in my building at work, I'll try it there tomorrow.

Yes. I found a trick on some android forums to log into youtube first then sync. After doing that I am able to sync my gmail account but then marketplace immediately crashes upon loading. It says "an error has occurred please try again later" and the only option is to press ok.

It's ass ugly 🙂

I sort of view them as a necessary evil, have gone that route with a G1, the EVO and now the ThunderBolt. Turns the phones into internet connected bricks, but I need the battery life, so I put up with it.

My job is such that I never spend too much time at any one terminal, or at a desk for any length of time, so only an extended battery fits my needs (I can't stand swapping out batteries all the time)

Just got the initial charge on the extended battery, will run the phone tomorrow & see how long it lasts.
