Question. I made three purchases with 35% off, all three showed 35% off during checkout. However, I only got two messages in my messagebox corresponding to the first two purchases. There is no message from ebay for my last purchase. The only difference is that last one required immediate payment. Unfortunately I didn't get any screenshot or anything from the last one to prove I'm supposed to get cashback for it. Am I screwed out of third cashback?

Happening to lots of people, don't worry for a few days 🙂

Are you sure we're talking about the same thing? I'm talking about "You've got cashback" message from ebay, not live cashback balance.

Yea - read the SD forums if you wanna double check. I'm 90% sure though.

Yup, 10% now. Unless you have a previous session open that had the 35% link you're only going to see 10%. I only bought a couple small items. I'm kind of glad it's dead now so I won't waste more time trying to figure out what to buy.

I read of people on SD creating multiple accounts and buying and selling between them to abuse this deal. Now it's only marginally above the ebay, paypal fees.

Hehe. I've been itching to get the 24-105 for the IS to complement my 24-70 2.8. My 70-200 2.8 completes the upper range. Was comtemplating about the 16-35 but got the 17-55 instead for my 1.6x body until FF bodies become more affordable.

Heh, I didn't get any L glass. I just got my first DSLR about 3 weeks ago and I'm just not ready to spend ~1K on a single lens. So I just got two walk around lenses EF-S 17-85 and EF 70-300. Part of me is actually afraid that sooner or later I will get the itch to buy L lenses.

Since we're talking about photo equipment I'd like to ask some questions:
1. What do you guys think EF-S 18-55 (from XSI kit) in pristine condition will fetch on craigslist? I don't think much, but anything to offset my new two lenses would help.
2. I want to buy wired remote and as far as I can see there are two available: RS-60E3 and RS-80N3. The thing is second one is twice as expensive as the first one, but I haven't been able to find why. I've read someone mentioning build quality is the only factor differentiating between these two, is it true and if so just how bad RS-60E3 build quality is?
3. Any recommendations for camera backpack, or better yet just a regular bag that doesn't go on my back but still fits my XSI and both my new lenses?

OK maybe I am just paranoid but I still can't understand this. Most people seem to be taking this deal hook line and sinker without really asking why or how this makes any sense. On our eternal search for deals and bargains we are able to find some great stuff, but all that stuff makes some sort of sense. A retailer wants to put a leader out, clear an item out which they may sell at or under cost, etc. There are much better ways to advertise Live search then a quiet deal to basically pick up 35% of people's costs.

With the amount of money and resources MS has, especially on their big site called... MSN? or NBC or whatever... Surely they could put together a huge ad campaign stating they will pay for every 10 random transactions used in their live search for a certain time. Even that would cost less then eating 35% of every transaction and only getting some viral advertising thru geek deal forums.

I'm all for a good deal but again, this has me very confused and unwilling to do something like give up put $1500 at risk to say buy 15x $100 bills with a promise for a cashback 60 days from now. I understand it may be a loophole but that is pretty stupid and MS probably employs more lawyers then most small countries...

I agree with your concerns. The Ferengi over at FW are all over this ... spending tons of money on items that they ASSUME that they will get 35% back on all their purchases. Part of me hopes that MS rescinds the "deal" and each of the FW'ers are left holding the bag (paying full price) for their items. Greedy bastards ...

I got the cashback message too. Note that it's not an email, but a notification in your ebay account's message box. If everything worked right, you get the message right after you pay through Paypal, and it contains a link to the cashback site. Apparently it takes a few days to show up on the cashback site itself though.

I only made one purchase, a GTX 280 for $430, since I couldn't decide what else to buy. 😛 If this works out though, it has to be the best deal I have gotten from here.

Even still, I hope people get their cashback from this and MS gets the shaft 😛

Even at 10%, thats a damn good cashback offer. That makes more sense though. If paypal is getting 3% from both sides, plus any other fees, it lessens the 10% a lot. I could see MS accepting to eat 3-5% for the referral, not 30-35%. This sounds like a goof, I hope people here profit from it.

I made the purchases Yesterday, now I'm trying to setup a live mail account and I get

1. A friend of mine was able to fetch around $150 for his lens on Craigslist. YMMV

2. Those two have totally different connectors and I don't think they are interchangable. I have the RS-80N3 myself for my 20D. I believe the RS-60E3 is only for film bodies, but head over to bhphotovideo website for a closer look at that connector. This information will also be found in the camera manual/accessories diagram.

You can get a generic wired remote on eBay for almost all DSLR's.
I got one for my 10D and it works perfectly. Emulates all the functions of the real deal for like 1/10 of the cost.

For a backpack, my parents got me a LowePro CompuTrekker from Best Buy over Christmas-time. It rocks. Has room for a thin laptop, a DSLR body, 3 lenses (or 2 large lenses) and tons of accessories, gear, and snacks. I take it with me on dayhikes and the like or when going to Hawaii and want to take my Thinkpad and DSLR.
I think it is like $80 or $90. A good LowePro pack is never cheap, but imho a good bag is important to protect that expensive gear.

Well unfortunately I missed the 35 percent deal but decided to go for the 10 percent anyways and picked myself up an ATI HD4850 as well for $184.61 shipped. Was eyeing the HD4870 but decided the 60 percent price premium was not worth the 10 to 20 percent speed difference for my more mid range system.

The deal was back up today (I got 35% to show up 3 times using the term "cheap ipod") and I snagged a great headphone amplifier 😀

The terms and conditions page (can't link it here) says 250 dollar maximum

One more thing, the rest of you shouldn't lose hope since it was definitely dead earlier and it came back today. I would imagine microsoft put some sort of money/day limit at which point the ads throttle down. As soon as enough time passes I would guess it'll be back again until they pull the ads completely
