I would think that if it was the fuel pump or filter, it would fail to deliver enough fuel when you tried to accelerate hard.

C'mon.. there's nothing to it. Or would you rather just bring it to a dealer and pay out the ass?

I've found tons of useful information on my Mazda 626 from the Edmund's Townhall forums. There are some awesome guys on OT here that can help with car trouble, but for something like yours I'd try a dedicated Honda forum.

Have you tried hooking up a pressure gauge? I had one on before to help diagnose a problem... it was from a mechanic. I'm not sure if they charged to use it or what but it would've been pretty cheap either way (fuel ended up being fine, it was an eletrical problem).

A clogged fuel filter is the first thing that came to my mind. It could be the pump...I'm pretty sure most cars have 2 filters, so you might want to check it out. I've found that if you spend $10 for a book on your car, you can figure a lot of the stuff out yourself. Mechanics at dealerships suck because they don't set the prices...they follow the estimated time it takes to do a job and usually end up getting paid an extra $100 at least over what the job was actually worth.

I took an appointment with the dealer tomorrow, 50$,,,,,

If it so happens that it IS the distributor/cap thats defective, shall I get a new one at a junk yard, or should I buy it new?

Sounds like leaky injectors/fuel rail to me.. based on experiences with a past car at least.
