I finally installed Oblivion, only to find out that it heats up my video card like nothing else, and after intermittent freezing I monitored the temps, and I was getting f****** 93C, with the fan at 12v! Damn, those things run hot...

Bottom line: the zalman fv700 is NOT enough to cool a x1900xtx. Now bump this thread to hell so everyone knows. Hope the vf900 gets here soon.

Someone posted how he put a vf700 on his x1900xt and it helped noise and cooled better by like 10 degrees. Granted it's not a xtx but is there that much of a difference between the 2?
 
There may be a few degrees difference. I actually have an xt, but I flashed it to an xtx. Flashing it back to xt will bring my temps down to about 89 or 90C (I already tried it), but that's still hot.
 
Yep, people over at XS have already figured this out. I can't wait for the VF-900cu to come out, my ears are about to implode into my brain from the whining fan.

i dunno its not yet in the usa but i'll have mine hopefully by this weekend.. somehoe got a friend to get it from asia. i really hope it cools better than the stock... i think for the op.. you should remount it, you probably did something wrong somewhere or too much as5..? but i'm pretty sure you made a mistake during installation. shouldn't reach 93C
 
it is supposed to be out in april, I really want one but I am going to wait for somebody else to get it first and post some reviews. you can preorder it but I cant remember where I saw that.

So I can just buy the V1 and it will fit the x1900 without modding? If it fits, I'll probably get the v1 ultra. Just as an update, I flashed the card back to xt bios, and it ran without problems, but it's still too hot to be comfortable.

edit: also, how tall is the top part of the v1? Would it fit if the card was mounted in the top slot of the DFI Ultra-D with a SI-120 cpu cooler?

35mm from the backside of your vid card to the outermost edge of the fan on the V1.
 
With the stock cooler and fanspeed set to automatic, my X1800XT still heats up to 90-95c (at the most), and it doesn't even put the fan above 60%.
 
Other people have had no problems with it...

what about those reviews? And i thought you said it worked b4?

maybe the hsf contact has been compromised?

The V1 Ultra will now mount and properly cool a X18/9 card without the need for excessive extreme mods like mine.

No, not unless you rotate the SI-120 around 180 degrees.

I bet no GPU cooler but the one on the 7900 GTX would be sufficient.
That XTX bellows heat liek I've never seen before.
It used to scare me and my girlfreind the way it'd heat the entire room up.
 
Well, I get my HIS X1900XTX and interested to find out what the temps/noise complaints are all about. I'm looking at the V-1 Ultra, VF900cu, the SYTRIN KuFormula VF1-PLUS and watercooling(always wanted to play around w/ it).

In regards to the Thermalright V-1 Ultra, my three favorite places carry them:

The V-1 Ultra could always fit the X1800s and X1900s but not all of the memory chips could be cooled by it. So, they created a memory cooling kit to got along w/ the V-1 Ultra:

If you don't mind a little hands-on custom work, you can modify a dual-core Opteron sink to fit. I've seen a couple guys do that with great results. Load temps never went above 60C. If the XS search function was working right now I'd get you a link to that thread.

How heavy are those heatsinks? I got a stock p4 heatsink and its a heavy mofo.

With the stock cooler on auto, the temps would also reach mid or high 80's. If you manually set the fan to a higher speed, then it will cool noticeably better, but the noise is quite annoying.
 
i have a 1900xtx oc'd to 690/800 with stock cooler. Using ati tool to set fan speed to 100% temps never go over 60.

While on the subject, has anyone ever had an ATI card that was playable, without the use of some after market program, like ati tool?
Of the four ATI cards owned since my 9800pro, all set fan speed at 5%, except the 19xtx was at 27%. Is this a driver problem or what, using ati tool should not be mandatory in my opinion, but their cards are useless without it.
