great performance by the usa team :)
it seems that portugal is starting to play as a "real team" now instead of a bunch of kids thinking they know what football is

That guy is an idiot.. you never, never move the ball forward in a block. He should've dampened that ball for the goalie to handle it.

Come on Team USA, we need an insurance goal before the Portuguese pull their goalie and go on the power play...

it was a pretty well played match. the US gave Portugal fits. They might have underestimated what they could do, but the US played a great game and withstood a tremendous offensive attack from Portugal for most of the 2nd half.

Czar, it's "own goals" and yea, there was one for each side. Landon Donovan centered a pass that bonked the Portuguese defender in the dome and it bounced in then net past the keeper. And you know about Agoos'. It all worked out though.

USA USA!

What an upset. That game ruled. I was counting the seconds there at the end.

Lets hope the US can keep the momentum going.

Wasn't the one in favor of the US a deflection? If it was, then how come they called it an own goal?

I wouldn't call that a self goal though.. because he didn't want to be hit by the ball, it just happens to deflect off him. But Jeff Agoos clearly intended to kick that ball.. but he couldn't control it and hit his own goal.

landon donovan's goal was originally ruled a goal by him, but was then changed to be an own goal afterwards.

My point exactly.. can't call the one in favor of the US an own goal. Otherwise, what if the goalie tried to save but couldn't deflect the ball off far enough and end up in the net? Would that be call an own goal? Don't think so.

regardless of what we think, the scorekeeper ruled it an own goal.

I can live with it.. but I don't have to agree with it.
