ok i've diagnosed that the friction wheel and the gear shaft are moving because there are visible screws on the outside that spin when the gear shaft moves. but the wheels still do not move.

so does that friction wheel make contact with the plate? or is it worn and thats why its not working.
maybe there is a adjustment nut to put more pressure on it?

yes it does because the gear shaft moves meaning it must touch the drive plate. i think....
the drive plate is connected to the engine.

then you have to raise the plate up some or lower the wheel, i would think theremust be some kind of adjustment for it, it cant be that cheap.

ok, if there is no adjustment you might have to improvise thats why id like to see the pic so i know what shaft needs cut and where a washer goes and what needs welding.lol
if you need me you can always try aol im

that seems odd that the big gear would be spinning and not the shaft its on. you need to inspect all around the gear where it meets the shaft on both sides and see why its not holding. get a flashlight and small mirror so you can see all sides of it. it may need to be welded.
but please take a picture of it.

Make sure you add on the six hours it seems to take everyone to start them (for the first snow of the year)? :) and the repairs, etc.

the powerful ones are nice if you have a long driveway.....most people in my neighborhood buy the little ones (electric even), and spend like an hour on their tiny driveways. I hear them going before I get outside, I shovel, go back inside, and they are still at it.

see im not a moron, i take it over for servicing before the winter EVERY YEAR, it costs me 40$ to have them make sure its all fine and such, change plugs if needed, new oil... all that

started itt today, took all of 3 seconds with the electric starter

cast Iron Block w/ 8.5 HP of snow throwing goodness, hell the thing is 15 years old and it still runs like a champ, thing is a tank, it coudl use a paint job but thats about it

our driveway isnt TOO long but its longer then you wanna shovel

6 inches is not really that much. I shoveled 3 driveways with 15 inches on them 2 weeks ago when my snowblower broke. You are better off just shoveling today and then fixing the snowblower some other time.

you mean the shear bolt? those are designed to break when you try to crunch up a big rock or something so you don't wreck the auger (much). Try to get a replacement part if possible...otherwise next time it won't be so easy to fix.
