BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (AP) -- The 2-year-old daughter of a Fairfield lawyer charged with stabbing his neighbor to death two weeks ago had told her mother that the man molested her "in the starry nights," according to a police report released Tuesday.

Police said the lawyer, Jonathon Edington, climbed through 58-year-old Barry James' bedroom window and fatally stabbed him on August 28, after his wife told him what his daughter had said.

Edington, 29, appeared Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court facing murder and burglary charges.

He is free on $1 million bond but was ordered to have no contact with James' relatives, who live in the house where James was killed.

According to the police report, the girl told her mother about the alleged molestation while the family was visiting relatives in Rhode Island.

The girl "explained that she did not want to go home because of Barry," police said in the report. When her mother asked her to explain, the girl said "that Barry puts it on her belly and her nose," the report said.

When her mother asked her when James does this, she replied, "He comes to me in the starry nights."

Police are investigating the molestation claim. (Full story)

Peter Ambrose, an attorney for James, issued a statement on behalf of James' family disputing the allegations.

"The family of Barry James stand together in defending the unfounded allegations of molestation," the statement said.

"They are vicious and hurtful, and the family only wishes that their son and brother had the opportunity to defend himself,' it continued. "When all of the facts are made known, we are confident that Barry will be cleared of these allegations."

James' 87-year-old mother discovered his body. When police officers went to Edington's home a short time later, they found him standing by his kitchen sink with what appeared to be blood on him, authorities said.

Officers said a large kitchen knife was next to him on a counter.

Edington, a graduate of Syracuse University and Fordham University Law School, has been practicing patent law, his lawyer, Michael Sherman said. Police said Edington has no criminal record.

first it does not say what he puts on her belly or nose. 2nd WTF is starry nights? if that is the information he had to kill another guy he still deserves the electric chiar.

ohh the mother goes and files a molestation charge on the dead man 2 DAYS after he is murdered!

Molestation complaint filed against slain man

FAIRFIELD ? The wife of accused murderer Jonathon Edington filed a complaint with police Wednesday, claiming that Barry James, the man Edington is charged with killing two days earlier, had molested their 2-year-old daughter.
Christina Edington, 28, came to police headquarters at about 8 p.m. to report the alleged molestation.

Police Capt. Gary MacNamara refused to say Thursday what Christina Edington told police, such as the location, time or other specifics of the alleged incident.

"We are currently investigating the reported sexual molestation claim and, since we are doing that, I'm not going to comment on an active investigation," MacNamara said.

Jonathon Edington, charged with murder and first-degree burglary in the case, was released Wednesday on $1 million bond.

Neither Jonathon nor Christina Edington had reported any molestation allegations before Wednesday, MacNamara said.

Edington told her husband about the alleged molestation Monday afternoon, said Michael Sherman, the Stamford attorney who represented Jonathon Edington at a Tuesday court hearing. Sherman said that allegation caused Edington, 29,

Yea, because it's so crystal clear that he was guilty of the crime he was murdered for

As I said in the original thread - basing a life or death decision on the word of a 2 year old is absurd.

starry nights is just the way the child chose to describe "night time" its quite obvious what it means. "it" i dont care if "it" is a fork, teddy bear or his fried chicken.

so if the guy gave the girl a teddy bear and was playing with her (wich many here have done with 2 yr olds) its ok to kill him?

True... but that father knew his neighbor and some of the antics he pulled. See previous threads/news reports stating he would expose himself. If it were my daugher I would probably torture a confession out of the bastard beforehand.

Or it could be a dream she had, or a made up place where she plays with her imaginary friends. Two year olds don't really distinguish between reality and fantasy.

I dont know that children can recall dreams and place logical boundaries around them. most adults cannot.

And there appears to be absolutely no evidence that he did.

ok he was walking around INSIDE his house naked. that is not exposing him self. SO he yelled at kids. i am willing to bet most of ATOT has done both at one time or another.

My son says weird crap all the time. I can ask him a question I know to be false and he'll answer yes. Kids are not reliable witnesses and they have vivid imaginations.

This father was an idiot to go off like that based solely on what his 2 year old told him.

yeap. the accusations to police 2 days AFTER the murder (which they have talked to a defense attorney) make it fishy.

seems like they are trying to come up with a defense for the murder.

What kind of neighborhood do you live in?

My son would run screaming into our bedroom if someone came climbing in through his window at night.

I've been around many 2 year olds (not like that perverts) and non of them can form complete sentances, let alone know what molestation or any act thereof would be. The mother made it up to get rid of her husband.
