UPDATE: Heard on the radio that the two racers were arrested. One is a young Caucasian woman, and the other is an undocumented male from El Salvador. (Not that race or gender has anything to do with it .. .) It was the man who actually hit all the pedestrians. Woman crashed, but didn't hit anyone. I need to find a link.

Street Racers Plow into Dairy Queen Customers

Winston-Salem Journal

GASTONIA, N.C.

A car ran out of control on a busy thoroughfare and spun into lines of customers waiting outside a Dairy Queen late Monday, injuring five people - two seriously, authorities said.
The impact threw people as far as 20 feet and knocked some of them out of their shoes, according to witnesses. Witnesses said the car, a Chevrolet Camaro, appeared to have been racing a Mitsubishi Eclipse down Franklin Boulevard when it hit a utility pole, went out of control and ran into two lines of people outside the ice cream restaurant at 9:22 p.m.

"Two cars were speeding and they run into the people in line," said Dawn Pappas, whose husband of three years, Nicholas, was injured. "My husband was the last one in line."

Police Officer Keith Quinn said both drivers fled after the accident. No arrests had been made as of 9 a.m. Tuesday. Two people were taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Gaston Emergency Medical Services operations supervisor Tommy Cleary said. Three others were taken to the hospital, two with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and one with minor injuries, Cleary said. One victim was in a parked vehicle that was hit in the parking lot, he said. None of the victims' names or conditions were available early Tuesday.

Leigh Anne Bradley, a 19-year-old Dairy Queen employee, said the car was speeding when it hit the power pole, spun around and hit four or five people. People lay on the curb screaming, including some children who screamed for their parents, she said.

Ashley Bradshaw, 19, was next door at Ink Link Tattoos at the time of the wreck and was one of the first on the scene.

"I felt it sitting in there," Bradshaw said. "It knocked two people out of their shoes and another one to the other side of the parking lot."

The Dairy Queen's owner, Dane Aaron, said he and his employees called 911 and then handed out rubber gloves and paper towels to help the injured.

"You could hear the impact of the pole, the squeal of the tires and then all the people screaming," Aaron said. "The girls here thought the car was coming in here."

Carrie Morris, 23, of Chapel Grove said cars often race on the stretch, and on Monday night she could hear their engines roaring before the crash.

The dumbasses are going to be arrested and hopefully incarcerated (assuming the abandoned cars were theirs and not stolen)! Strange thing though- I've never seen a Dairy Queen that was busy, let alone so late at night.

editt: I meant "Street Racers" not Ricers 😀

2nd edit: This appears to be in a 'black' neighborhood, so definitely no rice.

No, edit it back. Those were street ricers. Hauling ass down a crowded city street at 9pm in an impromptu drag is an asshole way of competing for the longest mechanical penis.

Take it to A) the track, or if you've got to get your F&F on, B) a secluded highway late at night/early in the morning, where the only person you'll kill if you fvck up is yourself.

OMFG, the Clemson's should sue Chevrolet and Mitsubishi for not installing cameras to prevent this tragedy.

Only if they were racing in reverse.

...or they should sue dairy queen for not building concrete barriers in anticipation of street racers out of control

or they can sue the city for not providing a free drag strip for racing.

You serious? Man, where I grew up (not THAT far from the big city!) DQ was THE place to be for kids at night. There would generally be hundreds of kids hanging out around it.

Course, the town I grew up in had as alternatives:
* McDonalds
* Arby's
* Burger King
* Taco Bell

And....that's it! Pretty much just a pit stop on the interstate. And DQ was the farthest from the highway exit and closest to the lake (only about 2 or 3 blocks from Lake Erie), so I suppose that's why it was most popular.

I've seen black ricers before so don't stereotype.
They usually rice out late 80's, early 90's Hondas with unpainted body kits that are falling apart and tacky altezzas with 14" rims.

It's the drug dealers/gangsta rappers that pimp out domestics with chrome spinner rims 😉

hopefully someone saw the drivers and can ID them
I would assume that the abandoned cars were registered to the two people arrested. Cops would have to prove that they were the drivers. I wonder if the illegal had proper papers for the car.

Sadly, I doubt he had insurance. :|
