update...

So today was my court date. Judge was very reasonable. I told her I was just curious to see how it felt like to drive that fast. I then explained to her that what I did was wrong and I put my life and lives of others in risk. Then she asked what I was doing with my life, gave her the quick run down...then pled guilty. She then was quiet for a minute while she looked through my record then said this, "I have decided to drop your ticket down to a speeding violation, 2 pts off your license, and 50 dollar fine along with the court fee, is that ok to you" Me in shock, just said "yes, thanks." So total cost has been 80 for the impound and then 106 for the court...grad total of 186.

Moral of the story; purcahse a valentine radar detector ;). j/k real moral...drive slower and obey the laws.

end update...

I recieved a ticket last week for Wreckless OPs Midemeanor 3 Violation. I was going 94 in a 65. This was on a three lane highway and it was 12:36am. The officer hit me with a laser and then impounded my car after he pulled me over. My court date is this Friday. I was thinking of fighting the ticket, but I got nothing really to go on, just hope the officer doesn't show. Is it worth my time to fight? I have never fought a ticket before.

I do have one ticket on my record at the moment, that was for an accident two years ago. Thanks in advance for the advice.

You were going 94 in a 65 and you're worried about contesting a ticket? Jesus christ... screw your head on straight before you get into a car again, okay?

I would definitely recommend getting a lawyer for a case like this. Impounding your car... that's some SERIOUS stuff, I didn't even knwo they'd do that over a ticket.

But yeah, get a lawyer, they might try to take your license away. I know, it sucks, you weren't doing anything. Ignore all the assholes who will post calling you a wreckless fool. THey just don't know how to have fun...

I bet he got you after you slowed down, didn't he?

Don't you people know by now that this is NOT the forum to ask about fighting speeding tickets?

Exactly how were you not at fault here?

Where is this? My friend got pulled over (in my car, with me in the passenger seat) for doing 93 in a 65 in Indiana, but all it ended up being was a $120 ticket. Luckily, though, the officer never made my friend sign the ticket, so he just didn't worry about it.

Because the law is unreasonable. The courts are a vehicle for fighting unjust laws.

Always go to court. They almost always reduce the penalty if your nose has been clean.
And consider getting a lawyer.

Man, your friend is gonna be in for a suprise the next time gets pulled over. The words "Hands on your head" and "outstanding warrant" will be spoken.

This is exactly what needs to have a huge fvcking finger pointed at. Maybe a 10 story tall neon sign in front of your face with this on it?

And you think the courts can change the laws? lol - I'm all for changing "unjust" laws, but just because they're unjust doesn't give you the right to break them.

After midnight? Was this a deserted interstate or something. I know I8 from Phoenix to San Diego is a ghostyard pretty much day or night?

Always contest it, worse that could happen is they reduce it.

How is the law unreasonable? You were going 29 mph over the speed limit!

Your kidding right?

Anyway, bottom-line EngenZer0 you don't have anything to go on period. As for a lawyer? Why would you even bother? Contest the ticket anyway, maybe the officer won't show up and you'll get lucky - maybe the traffic court judge will give you a good chewing out for doing 95mph?

Haha... traffic court is a "vehicle for fighting unjust laws." That's funny. What's next, the ACLU defending speeders?

lol... get a lawyer... that will probably prevent the points from your record...

...just because it was midnight with no traffic doesn't mean squat to the judge though... :p

On second thought i think you should hire Johnny Cochran or Robert Shapiro. If the ticket ain't legit, you must acquit!

I did 120 in a 70 the other day. Kill me I guess? No other cars even remotely near me... interstate on Sunday in rural Alabama. Gotta love it.

Oh, I was drunk, on mescaline, PCP, talking on my cellphone and masturbating.

Definitely go to court - chances are they will let you plead to a lesser charge, or at least reduce the fine. Don't let the other posters get you down - some people here perenially act like they've never done anything wrong . . .

Not always. I got a ticket for bullsh|t and tried contesting it. I was following a cop through a neighborhood on my way home when he slammed on his breaks in front of me. Then he was going 20 or so in a 35 for a few minutes (I kept more than my distance if he was going to start pulling crap) before pulling off, pulling back on the road behind me, pulling me over, and giving me a ticket for following too close. The guy was young, obviously a new cop, possibly on a power trip. I spoke with both the officer himself and the officer's C.O. over the phone a few days later and they BOTH told me that I did NOT deserve the ticket. I asked for it in writing and they agreed. Sweet! When I got the letter, it was completely the other way around: saying that they believe that I did deserve the ticket. I still have the letter around here somewhere, too.

Anyway My first appearance was to claim innocent or guilty. The court clerk was going to cut the amount of the fine in half (~90). I told her that I wanted to plead innocent, so they gave me a trial date later. When I went to trial, I gave my testimony and the passenger in my truck who I brought as a witness also gave his. The entire time, the judge was talking to the court reporter about how much she could fine some other guy who didn't show up in court. When the officer gave his rebuttle, she listened intently. She then found me guilty and said I was so because I couldn't prove I was innocent. Then she said that I was arrogant and ignorant, right in court! Total character assassination and unprofessionalism. Anyway, she cut the fine down by TEN WHOLE DOLLARS. Wow... plead guilty and get 50% of the fine. Plead innocent, get found guilty, and get 95% of the fine.

I tried to appeal, but the city holds the appeals court in a county building. The county charges the city ~$350 for the use of their facilities so the city forwards the charge on to ME, the appealing party. It wasn't worth it, but I was so pissed. That's why I fvcking hate pigs and the law.

:)

I bet the people preaching negatively about speeding do it, but just don't get caught.
