hot deal? that 12ms response sounds slick as f. if any of you pick this badboy up, respond here, i'd like to see what owners have to say about it
 
I got the original 710N when it first came out and it's an amazing LCD. I have absolutely no complaints about it. The only down side was the one I got has 2 stuck pixels but it doesn't bother me. I think I paid almost $400 when I got mine and I think it was worth it. For this price it's a GREAT deal!

I purchased one recently for a system build i did for a friend and it rocks. it's basically the same panel as the 710T (of which ihave two and love them) except lacking the bells and whistles. like it just has a plain jane stand and only analog inputs, while the 710Ts have DVI/Analog, adjustable height, portrait mode, etc. the 710N played Unreal and HALO flawlessly, and they scale resolutions easily, i.e. your picture doesn't go to hell if you drop the res down to 1024x768 or 800x600 (say to play halo with all the goodies turned on on a plain jane GeFor6600). You couldn't ask for a better monitor for the price. those dumbass dell monitors cant compete 🙂 I'm wanting to get a matching 15" now for my little backup system i run.

These panels ahve made me a believer in Samsung stuff. Their optical drives are quite good IMHO as well. have a DVD/CD-RW combo drive myself,a nd just put a DVD-RW in that system build, both are insanely quiet, and fairly quick.
 
This is amazine how much the price has fluctuated on this LCD screen at newegg, every day it seems to change. To bad I am holding out for dvi and 19"
 
I got this monitor for my mom's computer. First time I ever used an LCD (I have a trinitron CRT at home). I gamed on it all night long, it was beautiful. No more ghosting than my trinitron. It was soooo nice. It's only a 17", which helps the fact that it only uses analog. But I can tell you, this is a sweet monitor for gaming.
 
I bought one from newegg based on that deal. The monitor is great. I even picked up a new videocard to go with it. Great monitor!

Digital Video Interface
Your old CRT monitor only accepts Analog input. Just like you have digital and analog signals everywhere else, this is no different. instead of 1s and 0s going to your old CRT there is an analog waveform of some type or other. When you port Analog into an LCD, it gets converted BACK to digital for display on the screen. DVI eleminates these TWO conversions, sending a digital signal straight to the monitor. DVI is less prone to interference, etc etc. all the advantages digital has over analog normally. the DVI connector is also capable of carrying analog signals, so you can use a DVI-Analog adapter (adapter, not coverter; no conversion happens, it just ditches the DVI outputs and makes the proper termination for connection with an analog display) to run an analog display from that port. This is why buying a card with Dual DVI Connectors is the smartest way, because you can adapt one direction, you can't adapt the other though.

Some people say they can tell a difference in DVI vs analog, personally i have dual 17s sitting here, one on DVI and one on analog, i can't tell the difference, but in certain applcaitions there is maybe some small color differences. depends on what you're doing. I'm going to get a dual DVI card for my primary PC in the future to free up the extra analog inputs on my monitors for use with secondary systems and testing systems.

Still not a bad price... I want to see Samsung release a DVI 17' LCD utilizing their 8ms response time [magicspeed(or something like that)] they have on both a 17' and 19' analog LCD now... It shouldn't be long before that happens, and that's what I'm waiting for 😉
 
I ordered one last night. I need a replacement for my dying CRT but I don't really like my LCD options at the moment. This inexpensive Samsung should hold me over until the technology has caught up a bit.
 
Yeah, I just realized that I got mine for $209 shipped with that rebate. I lucked out... bought it before they posted the mail in rebate and scaled back the instant rebate from $30 to $15. Since I ordered on the 1st I can take advantage of the rebate.

Outstanding deal. I should have it tonight. Can't wait to check it out.
 
Tempting @ $215 AR. I'm trying to hold out for a DVI 19" LCD.. but would that be worth the extra $150+ more than this? I'm starting to wonder...

It is indeed tempting. If I had the dough for the 19", I would fork it out, knowing that it's likely to be the largest display I'll own for years to come. The only question is if the current 19" LCD performance is worth investing in. Theres another thread on here for the 70D+ (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...tid=40&threadid=1500941&enterthread=y)
for a Hyundai 19" DVI LCD using Samsungs 8ms panel. So far it seems to be a good deal, $379 shipped, and from newegg no less. I would just hate to invest in this with a slightly lower quality in color reproduction, and the premier 8ms low latency just to see 6 months down the road a 4ms with higher quality come out, or something to that effect. But, speaking in regards to current LCD line of monitors, that Hyundai has been reviewed very well, and comes with DVI to boot. That's a big + in my books.

Indeed. I'm following this thread (17" LCD), the Hyundai one (19" LCD), and a FS/FT thead with a guy selling his LCD (19" LCD).

And to top it all off, my B-Day is next week and I just got my Performance Sharing bonus.

My 17" CRT (Amptron - ugghh) is ancient. This will be the second monitor I've ever bought for my computer in the last 10 years of PC building/upgrading. The pressure is killing me. I want to wait a bit longer for an absolute killer deal, but I've been doing that for 5 or 6 months now..
 
Not to thread crap but I got this LCD for my cousin on black friday and wasn't impressed. Within seconds of hooking it up I noticed that desktop picute wasn't static but instead, collors were wiggling and fluctuating. When you look real close it looks like a pixel beehive or something, to give you an example. My cousin never noticed it in a month until I actually pointed out to her one particularly bad spot. How bad or visible it is depends on collor pattern in the picture I guess. Average user who doesn't care about image quality probably won't even notice it for months. I could be the analog connection, I don't know since I haven't had a chance to check out the one with dvi. LCDs have a long way to go before they will even get close to Trinitrons CRTs which is what I'm sticking with for now. If you're really image quality concious and have plenty of desktop space, buying and 21" Trinitron CRT is the best thing you can do for now. Personally I'll let LCDs mature some more and then get like 30" wide screen LCD in a few years.
