Hello,
I just set up a computer that appears to have heat problems. With the air conditioner off (80 degrees in the house), the computer will boot and run for about 5 to 10 minutes, and then it will shut down. After about half a minute, it will try to reboot itself, but get stuck in an infinite reboot loop. The computer ran Unreal Tournament loop today for over an hour when I had the air conditioner on and seems stable. The weird thing is, the north bridge and the CPU do get hot, but it shouldn't be anything that causes the computer to crash. I would say it gets to about 110 to 115 degrees on both the NB and CPU. Of course, with the AC on the NB and CPU are cooler. Is this board too sensitive to heat? I don't want to run the AC all the time (I don't need it, and neither does my other computer, which is equivalent in speed). Here is what the computer is:
AMD Duron 750 (not overclocked)
Giga-byte GA-7zx (VIA KT133)
Quantum Fireball KA 7200rpm
DVD ROM drive
ZIP
Floppy
300 Watt Power supply.
Retail Duron 750 heatsink
I have Arctic Silver on the core of the CPU and it does have proper contact. I am thinking about getting a bigger heatsink, but would that do any good? Is there anything I can do to reduce the sensitivity to heat? Does anyone have experience with the above motherboard that would be helpful?
Thanks in advance.
