Literally every house I've lived in that existed in residential neighborhoods had people parking in the street. I cannot imagine a more inane thing to care about.

He said his HOA got involved and they went to the local law enforcement, who handled the situation. Certain HOAs have rules against that. If you don't like it? Don't live there. Our I completely understand people visiting and parking on the street, no problem. But buying multiple cars and just leaving them sit for over a year? Trashy. It also ruins the bike paths or people who may walk their neighborhood.

Our HOA has those rules as well, but they don't enforce anything as far as I can tell and they are way relaxed.

There was someone a few streets from me that even parked a 5th wheel rig in his driveway. The humanity! Sadly there was some issue and it caught fire. that was probably his livelihood. :/

Yes and no. Feeding the cats keeps them close to the house; makes them want to hangout here. Without the food, they'd hangout elsewhere. I give enough food to keep them from starving, but not enough to dull the hunting urge.

FWIW, we started using a landscape service years ago when my lawnmower broke down catastrophically and I seized on it as an opportunity to escape my wife's oversight/feedback on my relaxed yard maintenance efforts. So being without a lawn mower, I was back in a bit of a pickle when our landscape guy decided he needed to stop his weekly visits due to the shutdown orders. Fortunately for me, she quicly found and enlisted another service that is still making their rounds. Certainly a "first world problem" (especially given today's context), but I am nonetheless relived to be off the hook.

That's why you have the HOAs. You don't have to worry about the small things. That is their job to deal with and handle accordingly. Hate or Love the HOA, they are just doing what they are supposed to do.

Having an opinion or disliking something doesn't take much brain power, lol. A lot of people do not want cars parked on the streets for a variety of reasons. I don't care much for it either (that's why we have garages and driveways), but it happens. I don't act on my dislike for it, but that doesn't mean it's something I concern myself with or get involved.

On-topic: I have a guy who does my lawn. He has 3 kids he is helping put through school and does a great job. Keeps me from having to do it and it helps his family out. Win-win!

I find cars in the street mildly annoying. Not enough to say anything, but It blocks traffic. If people are coming from opposite directions, one has to stop. I also judge the people for having too many cars. If it came down to it, I'd rather have *everyone* park in the street rather than having an HOA.

We have a lot of kids in our neighborhood. A lot of families are out walking with their children in strollers. People and children ride their bikes through the 'hood. Also children play and sometimes it's really hard to see them (especially coming around corners) if there are cars blocking the view and we all know kids sometimes have a tendency to pop-out from behind things. We actually had a driver hit a kid on a bike about a year and half ago. He was OK, but my wife witnessed it and so did a couple of neighbors.

Not to mention that it clutters the road and makes it hard to pass if you have people with parked cars on both sides. Also, people sometimes part the wrong direction, meaning it looks like a car is coming at you.

Plus, having a bunch of cars on the street tends to bring down curb appeal.

With some HOAs, it's actually against the rules and bylaws. That would be why they had the police get involved and they put a stop to it. It wasn't legal according to their guidelines. There probably are laws in place in some cities that do not allow street parking, but I couldn't tell you off-hand.

Nope, as I said before, our HOA doesn't really do shit, lol. They maintain the pool, entertainment area, playgrounds, tennis courts and their part of the lawn care and landscaping.

They did send out a letter asking people to not leave their trashcans in visible site (but our city did too, they told everyone not to bring their cans to the street, they would get them) and to not park cars on the street.

They've never enforced the street parking though.

I love how people are screaming about their freedoms being violated by the "stay home" rules across the country, as their scream their outrage from their home governed by an HOA, which is nothing more than a gang of neighbors that think they have the right to stick their nose in your business.

That example isn't too bad, in our town any unregistered vehicle has to be garaged. Think of it like this, you've maintained your home well for 10 years and now your ready to sell and up-size, suppose you've had a kid or two. Now I'm living next door with that project Ford Falcon in progress in the driveway that's been there in it's primer glory for ages, don't worry, eventually I'll find a tranny for it and get going!. Anyone coming over to check over your home is going to see that and think NFW I want these people as neighbors and probably pass.
