Yea, from what I'm gathering, Thumper has been thinking about her wedding day since she was like 5 years old, her Mom told me some of "their" ideas on the phone, I'm getting this sinking feeling that my input is going to be limited to agreeing with her. 😀

edit: so where my above ideas too cheesy? I can think of something different. This is fun for me. 🙂

Yea, honestly they were...

I'm going for serious romantic here, something really special that she'll be thrilled to tell her friends about for years to come. 😀

It isn't likely to be a real surprize at this point anyway... 🙂

Oh yes 🙂

As for an operational code name, anything totally random is best - make people think there is some deep, symbolic connection when really there isn't! For example, some of my ideas have been:

Operation Blue Octopus
Operation Pink Cloud
Operation Take Out The Trash
Operation Ice Cube

See? Totally random 🙂

But despite the random codename, I'm all for serious romantic proposals! Some ideas to consider - what kinds of locations does she like? Flower gardens, romantic walks in the woods, fancy restraunts (sp?), beaches, boat-trips, moutains, etc.? Remember - location location location! Also consider special places - maybe where you first met, where you first danced, your first trip together, something along those lines...

Since this is still the phase of planning that I'm in, that's all the planning help I can provide for now 😉

EDIT: Actually, one more tidbit - have fun with this! The wedding day is the bride's deal (and yes, your role will probably be limited to agreeing with the bride & her mother 😉), but the engagement is definitely your deal - make it special, make it fun, and have fun doing it! Just my $0.02

You're a girl? :Q

Well, then please send out more ideas... Being a guy, I'm rather clueless in general. 🙂

Your idea wasn't bad, just not the sort of thing I think Thumper would like. Knowing her, she probably wants me to do it in Paris on the top of the Efiel Tower at sunset with Kenny G playing in the background! That being outside my budget, perhaps that might help with a less expensive option? 🙂

How is that one random? Sounds like one of my duties as a husband. 🙂

She would love a proposal from the top of the Eifel Tower in Paris on a beautiful sunset evening with Kenny G playing in the background...

Sadly, that is out of my budget. 🙂

I'd love to do it with a large audience... Say, would the NFL allow a proposal on the field during the half-time show of the Super Bowl? 🙂 (hey, at least I think big).

Yea, that is more or less what I've figured out... The two of them will have a blast planning the wedding, so I need to plan something super romantic for the proposal... 🙂

haha, I thought it was obvious I was a girl...what kind of guy would put "lil" in their nick?? haha

ok, Grasshopper, I'm trying to navigate from goofy to romantic, so here is something i came up with: it is a bit reminiscent of a DeBeers commercial I saw, where the couple is in a movie theater by themselves and they watched their wedding video..do you remember it? Well, in this idea you could edit together lots of movie scenes that have proposals in them (maybe some funny, if you want, but there are plenty of super romantic ones). You could rent out somewhere to watch it (like Alamo Drafthouse type thing) or even better, invite her over to your place with candles and roses covering the floor, show her the video and at the end say..."There are a million ways to ask, but only one answer that I want to hear"...and then present the ring.

just an idea...have fun with it though. The best proposal, I'm sure, is one that comes from the heart and shares parts of your personality with your love for Thumper.

🙂

Naa, I never try to judge...

What kind of guy would call himself Grasshopper? 🙂 (unless the love of his life gave him that name of course)

Sweet, I do remember that commercial.

I like the idea of covering the floor with rose pedels and putting up a lot of candles, she loves candles and roses... 🙂

Thanks! 😀

Are you going to get this rock for the misses? Just take one of those choppers 😉 you fly and sell it. You then would have some left over money, ah you may as well just give her the left over money. She'd get it sooner or later. 🙂 Good luck.

ROTFL!!!!

You're right, I could trade the busted JetRanger for that rock...

Err... nice rock, but it IS just a rock you know... 😉

This is one of the funnier lines of the auction!
a gift certificate of $60.00 for toward future eBay purchases will be included.

I know this is lil' late than everyone else, but I just got the chance to access ATOT and surely dont want to miss to wish you and thumper CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 😀😀😀

Whatever you do,remember that the day belongs to the *TWO* of you. That means you both get a say and compromise on things so you end up with a day you both remember. Start off on a good foot with sharing the decision making 🙂

Thanks for the advice. 🙂 I do want to have some input into it, I only plan to do this once (knock on particle board).

She's at work and I'm stuck at home... I don't have a job to go to now... I'm depressed... 🙁

I'd take her out to lunch, but I'm still sick, yuck... 🙁

How old are you? You remind me of me. In college my wife was always worried about me being a pilot. After graduation I started flying Boeing 727's. I never told her the ones I was fllying was built before I was born (and notice the lack of navigational aids in the link below).

But eventually I gave up this office for a cubicle. Flying and being away was just to hard when kids became involved. I guess I should have toughed it out longer and would probably be working for FedEx right now. But I don't mind one bit. I enjoy wathcing the childern play ball and enjoy celebrating Christmas at home and not in a hotel.

I would not worry about your flying job. Its not worth your life working for a crappy company. I knew too many pilots who could not get hired by the airlines just because of some of the companies they were associated with. There are lots of people retiring and despite the economy lots of companies will be hurting for quality, experienced pilots.

We're both 26... I don't think we'll have kids until we're both 30.

It isn't a job, that is probably the difference between you and me (which is ok, don't take that a bad way). Flying is one of the joys of my life, I love doing this, I'd do it for free if I was wealthy and could do anything.

Its not worth your life working for a crappy company.

Now that point is true enough... 🙂 The JetRanger isn't older than me, but it is close. 😛

Whoo Hoo!!! Grasshopper, That is wonderful! um..... Here is an early congratulations! I am very happy for you and your gal!!! Also, I am so gald everything worked out!😀

I'm reminded of the time that I told a buddy that I had just made the biggest mistake of my life (jokingly referring to buying a project car). His response, "What'd you do? Get married?".

Seriously though, congratulations. May things continue to be as good for you two as they apparently have been in the past.

Flying wasn't just a job for me either. I enjoyed going to work knowing I would actually be getting paid to fly around the U.S. and Caribbean. I think the time away from home was more of an issue than the safety thing. Heck, now I drive on the interstate every day and wonder how I made it to work in one piece. Just as long as she knows that eventually when the car breaks down or there is a medical emergency, you will be hundreds of miles away. I knew it was rough on my wife, but when the kids came along it sealed the deal. The lifestyle is doable, just watch out for those crappy companies because you don't need any marks on your record. With the right attitude you will find a decent job where you are home more than on the road. Then you can be like all the ex-Pan Am captains I flew with. They made their money off the stock market after having tons to invest by making captain at 30. Most of them flew part-time. It was kind of like their hobby. Other people had tennis, they would go fly a 727 for a few days.

Of course now that my kids are older, I have gotten bit by the bug again. Especially after our 10 hour round flight to the outer banks last weekend. 🙂 Now only if the commuters didn't pay so crappy I could easily get hired again.

Thankfully many helicopter pilot jobs are local, so I can be home every night. 🙂 My ultimate goal is to fly EMS, they have some very nice new birds, well taken care of... In those jobs, you work a few days on, few days off, but you live where you work, so you're around even if not home.

That is what I'd like to end up doing if I can ever afford it. Maybe fly three days a week on a flexiable schedule and be home the rest of the time. Thumper will probably work full time for awhile, so perhaps I can help with taking care of the house...
