and there was no one on hand to point that out to them before they called in and checked?? sorry Conjur but it seems as if there were enough confused there about how it actually worked that a call was warranted....again, had this been on the other side of the isle I doubt you would have said anything, instead you would have agreed that it is better to be sure than sorry.
That's because you're a bitter partisan hack, that's why.

I'd wager to say that Dems are the ones behind it.

But I wouldn't put it past either party.

Then again, it might be a lone hacker but that's a bit harder to swallow.

The other is the one that is supposed to bet reset to zero for each election. The DA claims the monitor has confused the total ballots counter with the individual election counter. That is what the Philly DA is saying at this time but only one of the machines in question has been inspected.

Good work NeduD keep us informed.

Appears to be a non-issue and an apparent attempt by the GOP to delay voting in a heavily-Democratic area until new machines can be brought in.

So if this were the dems doing this you would have said the same thing? sorry but I would rather them be sure of the situation instead of letting it slide...someone screwed up and didn't reset the counters when they SHOULD HAVE.
The counters WERE reset!

Proof?? Or is that part of the Dems talking points memo just out?
Dude, seriously.....your statement is rediculous.

Straight off of phillynews update

Drudge: Wrong on Philly
From the Daily News reporter Theresa Conroy:

Dep. City Commissioner Ed Schlugen stood up just now and announced that there were NOT votes on the machines. The poll workers were looking at a counter on the back which tallies the total number of votes cast -- ever -- on the machine. It's called a "protective counter." He said there were no votes on the machines when they opened.

Also, Josh Marshall is printing a statement from Marge Tartaglione:

"Recent press reports have stated that machines in at least one precinct were not properly calibrated to ensure an accurate accounting of the number of votes cast."

"These allegations are completely unsubstantiated and have no factual
basis whatsoever."

The bottom line is this: The GOP is falling all over itself looking for something wrong in Philly, even if it's not there. If the past is any guide, Bush will carry the rest of the state by a small margin, and sink here in the city. So they're trying to cast doubt on the process -- from the very minute the polls opened.

Talk about animosity....so I am a Hack because I feel it was better of them to verify there was no issue instead of turning a blind eye which would lead to litigation later on?? right....Sorry conjur to disappoint however no matter what group pushed for this I would have supported the effort unlike you who would have said NOTHING had dems raised an issue because you are the hack, rino..whatever you want to call it...do us and youself a favor, just register as the liberal democrat that you truly are and stop playing these silly games.

Sheesh! there was a question. the machines have two counters one akin to a cars odometer and one like a trip meter. They apparently looked at the wrong counter. I can see that being questioned if one wasn't aware of the the purposes of each counter. I would say it is a legitimate call until someone clarifies the difference. Rather have it looked at then take a chance on bogus votes being cast. Gonna be tough enough to sort out the votes cast by Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy, and Daffy Duck. Everyone put the tinfoil hats back in the closet already.

In my precinct you have to show your ID to vote.. However, if someone could forge the very simple yellow slip they hand you to go the electronic voting booth, it would be very easy to vote repeatedly.
How? Doesn't a voter have to present his voter registration card and then sign (and there is only one place to do so, alongside his/her name) in the precinct poll book? That's how Oregon did it before they switched to all mail ballots (which is awesome) and how WA state still does it. No ID except the registration card needed. Sign here next to your name. No fraud possible (unless someone gave you their card to go vote for them, but then the signatures probably wouldn't match in the book and you couldn't vote anyway).
Considering how many false registrations have been allowed, you just go back and vote under your aliases.
2 forms of ID are required in order to get registered in the first place, making false registrations almost impossible. Addresses are double-checked against the DMV database, making dual registrations almost impossible.
Like I said, it's shocking that you east-coasters have been voting for more than twice as long as we have and we can get it right but you can't.

However, there are many areas where part of the verification is to send mail to the registered's address. Therein lies an issue that has taken place this year - a lot of that mail has been returned. As a result, those possible votes are in question. In the meantime, vote early, and vote often!

In addition, with all of the third-parties registering to vote, there is no one official checking IDs. Considering there may be a large quantity of these people that do not exist in the DMV, this makes double-checking registration very difficult.

Unfortunately, due to the Motor Voter legislation, I know that it is possible for non-citizens to get registered to vote. I have a friend that is a German citizen living here that is fully registered, and has voted.
