Klee, I have to disagree with you and eakers on this point. Here's why:
a) This isn't breaking something, taking the car without permission, or sneaking out at night. This is her life that he's talking about. He also stated that she getting into heavier drugs. She's endanger her life and he kept the secret long enough, action needed to be taken because she was not able to deal with her problem on her own.
b) Motivation. It does sound like he told his parents to piss her off, win points, be a rat, etc. He told his parents out of what sounds like genuine concern for his sister's well-being.
c) Taking responsibility. If something were to happen to his sister and she OD'd on something, he would bear responsibility for doing nothing.
<< I would not call rbloedow a rat if his parents had no clue what was going on with their daughter or if they were unaware of the gravity of her situation. Thing is, they were aware and were taking protective action against it. Hence, I deem his actions as a betrayal. His telling served only to tattle on his sister of what his parents were already aware. That is immature behavior but I suppose he is just acting his age and doing what sibs invariably do.
That said, I'd like to clarify that I do sympathize with him and his family and hope for the best for his sister. >>
