The question really is whether the old cat can peacefully coexist with a new cat.

Hi,
Older cats normally freak out when a newbie arrives, especially if they have been the only feline for long periods of time. In my experience of years of animal rescue, I have found that the following works:
Put the newbie in a separate room with a towel... After a day or two, take the towel and let the older cat sniff it. Keep the towel where the older cat usually hangs out most.
Then put the older cat in the room where the newbie is and let her sniff it. (Try not to have the newbie in the room while this is happening). And let the newbie sniff stuff that belongs to the older cat.
Introduce them in a neutral room. Stay close, in case one gets spooked by the other. You are the Alpha to them both, so they will feel safer if you are close to oversee the introduction.
Keep an eye on them for a few days and they should be fine. There might be a period of territorial boundry setting, that is to be expected, but as long as neither try to really harm the other, it should work itself out in a few days. If the older cat does try to do harm to the baby, then put the baby back in a separate room and start again.
Eventually, they will either become best buds, or coexist thru tolerating each other. Well, most of the time anyway. Occasionally, ... certain cats will just never allow another to be in it's territory, but that is fairly uncommon.
I have just seen the pics... and i would love to have the cat... i am just too far away.
