By the way this is my firmware version

2007.1.23 V.1.32

So the firmware is very hold if I look at the date (2007.1.23) (January 23 2007)

Played Cod2 and FEAR on my L226WTQ(BF) and so far no ghosting at all. Once I finish FEAR (currently playing) and Fear:Extraction Point I'll load up STALKER and see how it is. I dont anticipate any problems with ghosting though. At this point I feel comfortable reccomending the L226WTQ(BF). Bought mine at Circuit City.

nice thread. i just purchased the L226WTQ today at BB and so far I am enjoying it.

my firmware is 1.14 with date 2007.03.29

i did a ghosting test similar to spekter but didn't notice anything. once it becomes available i will upload it and you guys can tell me what you think.

video quality may be too poor to notice... can't find my other digital camera

I got a L226WTQ a week ago, and unlike many in this thread, so far I haven't noticed any ghosting problems (tested with Oblivion, FEAR and GTA: SA).

But I am having some headache getting the colors right, and with the very irregular brightness across the screen (which bothers me mostly). In the top, I get dark colors and in the bottom, the very opposite. To illustrate the problem, the gray bar at the left of this site looks like a gradient from dark gray to light gray instead of a solid gray. Another way to notice the problem is to drag your unmaximized browser to the top of the screen, pay attention to the colour and then drag it to the bottom, if you have the same problem I do, you won't have any trouble spotting the difference.

So, could anybody check and see if they have this problem?? Thanks!

You are simply experiencing the normal poor vertical viewing angle of TN panels.

This main weakness of TN panel make them darken very fast when seen from below.

This problem can be reduced by making sure that the top of the monitor is a bit lower than eye level, then angling the monitor backward to get the most uniform picture.

I compared it to a LG 19" TN panel and the L226WTQ does seem to have a higher difference, although I may be wrong since this wasn't a side by side comparison. A defective panel with excessive backlight bleeding would have this as a symptom?

Also, in this regard, isn't there a software solution to this? Perhaps a driver that would set a variable gamma that would go from higher at the top to lower at the bottom? Doesn't seem too difficult to implement this in a display card driver.

any good news ? I have the same ghosting issue and no chance to return my WTQ back.
here were few posts, the fw can be updated, but I didn't find the way.

I know someone said pixel mapping was supported but I'm not sure if it's not the video card that's doing the pixel mapping in his/her case.

What I want to know is:

Has the 226WT built-in pixel mapping or not?

I have an ATI card so I can't use pixel mapping unless the LCD supports it.

Thank you.

No, it is not supported in the L226WT or L226WTQ. Also AFAIK, no 22-inch widescreen monitor currently supports this feature (xtknight can correct me on this).

The upcoming LG L227WT will have a feature caller ARC wich will allow to fill the screen as much as possible while maintaining aspect ratio. But this will not be 1:1 pixel mapping.

The HP w2207 offers full scaling and aspect ratio (non-distortion) scaling in the OSD, but I haven't found a clear indication it does true 1:1 centered mode/pixel mapping. Based on what I have seen people are confusing aspect ratio scaling with 1:1. But, I have heard that the scaling is good and maybe there's more info in the manual about this.

What I think is ridiculous is that integrated Intel graphics give you all the options but if you buy even a $600 high-end ATI card you still can't center an image on the screen. I think everyone with an ATI card should complain very loudly about this until it is fixed (it's time to start filing this as "bug", not "wishlist" if we want it to ever get fixed). I hope this is only an omission from the drivers and not the HW itself. Does anyone know if ATI Tray Tools/other ATI progs reveal these scaling features?

That's how I feel 🙁

When I got this card I didn't knew about this issue because I only used a CRT. Now that the CRT is dying I got a 226bw, after being told that it had pixel mapping. I returned it after finding that it didn't but I'm still searching for a good LCD that has that feature.

Dammit ATI! Why can't you do what a 10$ Intel integrated chip can do? :|

edit: I emailed ATI about this. Let's see what they say...

got the ghosting issue also

I`m in japan and the ghosting isnt significant but annoying nonetheless
v 1.11 firmware, made on March 12 2007

gonna try to return it tomorrow for a replacement but if anyone finds a way to update firmware let me know

I emailed lg support in UK and got a draft type reply telling me to download drivers from the support website, havent tried it yet

So after years of CRT usage I finally replaced my Samsung 700NF with an LG L226WTX-BF, 2ms jobbie and I'm pretty pleased. My main concern was response time and ghosting since I do alot of race simming and FPS gaming but I have to say to my eyes there are no issues at all so far, even compared to my CRT which was running at a lower res (1280x1024 vs 1650x1080) and a higher refresh (85 vs 60), the image seems comparable as far as image smoothness goes (contrast and colors are different but very close after tweaking).

My main concern is getting more info and comparisons regarding the l226wtx-bf as I can't find any really hard core techie reviews of this screen, and I'm curious how this model compares to the rest. I'm almost the exact opposite of an LCD expert and would like to hear what some more knowledgeable people think of this panel.

Thanks for the info!

edit: wow, I might need to update my sig...

As I understand it there isnt any performance difference between the L226WTX and the WTQ, or any of the other WT models. Just cosmetic differences. As far as anyone knows they all perform the same. I have the WTQ-BF model and I have no ghosting so I'm pretty pleased with it. So far the L226WT models are still the best 22" LCDs to be had. I imagine it wont be long though before someone makes another 22" LCD that'll beat it though.

Sent my WTQ with 1.10 FW to LG service center.
Got my WTQ with updated to 1.14 fw
yahooooooooooooo! No ghosting issue now! I am happy 😉

Nice....maybe I shoulda stuck with the WTQ instead of switching to the WT....

To all LG Friends in arms reading this 🙂 I just bought an LG L226WA-WNQ - Price: 9200CZK = around 430USD (But it is equiped with those multimedia extensions HDMI and COMPONENT INPUTS + Audio output when audio signal received from HDMI) - I am from Czech Republic so that it was made in neighbouring Poland was a sure thing - but what is the core of my message - This one was made in JUNE 07 and I cannot find the way how to check for firmware (the old way with the MENU button and switching off holding then pressing does not work for me). NEVERTHELESS THIS PIECE OF HARDWARE IS JUST A DREAM ONE - I like the design Nice WHITE-BLACK matches my room image very well. No ghosting at all + no artifacts during gaming and very nice pleasant colours - I personaly like LG colours more than those of SAMSUNG's 226 BW or CW (they are nice, but I like the more natural and nonartificial LG way) - games seems more alive with those imho...

Anyway I just wanted you all to know that the PANEL made in JUNE 07 L226WA-WNQ seems to be that flawless working LG people are cheering about when having... CHEEEERING right now ;-). I do not personally have a problem with TN technology at all - for me absolutely fine PRICE/VALUE the best. Plus what I like also is the great CONECTIVITY of this WA-WNQ model: HDMI, COMPONENT INPUT, DVI, SRGB - got it on DVI and re-scaling is cool no problems with it (set NVIDIA default rescaling by the graphics card).

I AM VERY HAPPY I DECIDED TO GO FOR THIS MODEL 🙂 But I was afraid a lot (430USD is a lot of money for a student, but as said before summer work money invested well after all). SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO SAY WHAT THE F... AND MAKE YOUR MOVE (as Tom Cruise says in an old movie from 1983: RISKY BUSINESS). RISKY BUYS ARE A MUST FOR LCD BUYERS - of both SAMSUNG, LG and other.

Please one final question - If anyone knows how to get into service menu or how to check firmware number in this type let me know - I need other way than described here because it does not work anymore (OFF-MENUHOLD-ON-MENURELEASE-MENUPRESS= NOTHING).

Not sure what to tell you about getting into the service menu if that way doesnt work. xtknight might know. Considering it was made in June 07 and you have no problems I'm guessing its the 1.14 version.

very usefull topic!

I'm planing to get one 226WTQ. in my local stores are displays with Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) Panel and firmware FW v1.80

is it good or not?

should I look for LPL panel?

should I look for 1.14 firmware or everything higher then 1.14 will be ok (like 1.80) ?

thx!

From the way I understand it is that v1.14 fixed the earlier ghosting issues. There have been newer models out since then (June 07) so if its up to v1.8 now then I would think you are safe. Might want to run your question past xtknight and see if he knows anything new about it. So far the LG 226WTQ (and later models) is still the best 22" monitor.
