On the first page of his feedback I see several positives that have something about refunds and not getting items in them, plus a few negatives and neutrals. That right there would've scared me off, looks like he's been trying to scam people for a while.

If you paid with Paypal, simply file a dispute and you'll get your money back, easy as pie.

Check the top right side of the page - said he no longer is a member.

I have heard that paypal isnt always able to recover the funds. Is there any harm in also contacting my CC company?

I don't see why they wouldn't be able to, the guy scammed you then unregistered from ebay, or was deleted. Paypal will refund you and nail him with it, if he doesn't pay they'll put him into collections for it. If for some reason Paypal decides to be dicks about it and keep the money, just get your ccard company to reverse charges, but only do that as a last resort.

He sold mine and a bunch more. Then he emails me and tells me it will take a few days. Now his ebay account is gone.

I'm not taking any chances.

Actually it is unlikely he will get a significant amount of money back, or anything at all. That auction does not have buyer protection.

His only chance of getting money back is through his CC.

I know someone who purchased a notebook on Paypal for 3Gs, in the mail came a phonebook, and when he went to leave feedback the guy account was no longer active. Paypal told him is auction didn't have buyer protection, so he got nothing back. Sucks for him too since he didn't use a CC for the purchase. He lost 3Gs and says he will never use ebay again.

I had a problem where i had to file a claim with paypal once. They weren't able to recover all the funds since the guy withdrew all the money from his account. Paypal is pretty retarded in the sense they wait 7 days for the seller to respond before deciding whether or not to take action.

Forgive me... i dont want to sound mean... but i gotta ask.

You bid on an auction by a seller with 95% feedback who was asking $70.00 shipping.

what were you thinking?

i hope you did not get scammed. i really do... but this auction had red flags flashing all over it.

EDIT: make that $75.00 shipping. he forces the buyer to pay an additional $4. insurance on UPS.

Well, he could have been NARU'd because he hasn't paid his ebay fees....it does happen.

On the other hand, you could be out in the cold on this one. If he doesn't have a sufficient balance in his Paypal account, you won't see any money.....and Paypal CANNOT raid his checking account to recover a damned thing.

I would have find the address of where the payment was sent to and hunt the bastard down.

Sure they will. I contested a ~$155 eBay purchase (6000+ positives, excellent %'age) via Paypal (no protection purchased), and nothing happened for a few weeks. I called the CC company; it was fixed within days.

Screw Paypal - the CC company can just not give Paypal any money. ;) I use CC Paypal whenever I can - mainly for this reason.

CC company FTW. Whenever I have a complaint they reverse the charge in 30 seconds (AMEX Blue and Amazon Visa Platinum).

Exactly when I purchase things on ebay, only CC with paypal. Real protection.

I should have caught the red flags. It occured to me after I had won I guess. THe high shipping I just figured was due to the weight of the item. I have paid 99cents + $8 shipping for stuff like cell phone accessories.

Those people are just trying to avoid ebay fees.

I just do not understand why you people continue to buy stuff off ebay when this kind of thing happens every single day there.
