UPDATE: How well would you guys expect Circuit City/Firedog to pay?

I have too much time on my hands and am pondering (as in occasional *passing thought* pondering) taking up a second job beyond my private consulting work. There is a really really quiet Circuit City very close to my house and I was wondering if there was even a snowball's chance in hell that they'd be willing to pay me enough to make working there part time "worth my while."

I am currently employed as a systems engineer and have a CS degree if that would mean anything to them....

Firedog, in the event you haven't heard of it

Firedog Careers

Update:
Just dropped by a CC while I was out to lunch and the guy at the counter was wearing a firedog shirt. I asked him about it and he told me that he was the only guy at that location and that they were hiring because they had just let a lot of people go (a whole bunch of employees pissed off HR). He asked me to leave my name and number, so I just left my private practice business card. I think I might be getting called in for a face-to-face...

interesting....

So this raises the question again. How much should I ask for?

Companies hate over-qualified people because chances are, they won't be there long.
If you want a part time job, dummy down your qualification.

A better resume would be you were a college student majoring in CS looking for a part-time job while going to school.
Comapanies love those type of applicants becuase there might be a chance they can keep them after graduating.

Define "worth my while". You might be making 50k or 200k at your job and that makes a huge difference to the meaning of that phrase.

I'd do it for $12/an hour. Assuming of course that I'm doing the PC repair because I know they won't pay the regular CC guys that well.

depending on what you are doing, instore basic tech work probably starts at around $10. Being a supervisor lvl or so probably about $15-$20. Being one of the guys that drives the little scion around maybe up to $17-$20.

well if they want competive pay within the industry it will be that good or better. Making $12-$14 instore with experience and qualification is definately doable.

He's pretty much dead on. The on-sites support people make upwards of $15/hr.

I would hope it's at least $12/hr since unskilled labor jobs requiring no experience pay $10+

What kinda car is that firedog? The site is a crappy green with white type. I think I'm gonna puke if I try to read further.

Nevermind: I just read its a scion.

I would ask for $12. If that guy is the only one there he needs help. You could also end up being their top PC guru guy so $12 is not asking for much.
