My only saving grace is that I haven't really ever trained the BP properly due to my OLifts not requiring it. I hit 135kg about 3/4yrs ago and stopped BP as it was 1.5x and that was my goal at the time.

I wouldn't say 180kg is *plenty obtainable* though.

You BP it for 5-6reps?!

I stopped cutting about 3 weeks ago. I'm eating what I want but not forcing myself to eat. It's GOOD to eat as much rice/ pasta as I want lol.

The 160lb guy was a freakshow. My mate knew a 5'5 16yr old guy back in school that could dunk, but as we know that is no way the norm.

I still can't FS 2x bw after 14yrs of training :(. Both of my brothers can do it easily. They are lighter but ones crazy strong and the other is very strong and he is only 18.

Yes 4 plates for reps. Those were in the days I was strong and I could triple a 465 @ a little over 220 lbs bw.

I've changed my focus now. never took care of my shoulders and 10-12 yrs of heavy bench was hard on them. My workouts now never get above 300 lbs. The older I get the less impressed I get with what a person bench presses. We have a kid at the gym I go to all psyched about a 315 push.... wow.... awesome. then I see him workout on a bench day and he is doing half reps. Kids these days :pfff:

What I have learned in my experience is 315 or so is all a person will likely every bench unless they dead and/or squat. I would have 4 plates on during a workout and would get asked how I could bench so much. simply told them from squating.

FS = fronts squat? a 2x bw would be a decent lift

Strong Zivic.

I train at a uni gym and most guys aren't strong. You get the odd few guy. There is this one freak show guy who can rep out 140 and 160kg. His best is 180kg and he has trials for English American Football team. 110kg 6'1 and LEAN. He has a pretty dam impressive physique. DL 200kg for reps as well. Squats 160-170kg for reps and sets. I've helped him out on his squats but he is a freak show considering he's only 20 or 21 and has only 3yrs training. Very strong considering how young he is in training years.

Most guys can't BP 100kg properly.

FS = Front Squats. Yeah. Bests were close but not quite :(
191kg @ 97kg
180kg @ 93kg
160kg @ 85kg

Youngest bro did 155kg @ 74kg when he was 16. Other bro did 190kg @ 77kg at 27.

Hopefully next year I'll nail 180 at 90kg?!

Weighed in at 87.4kg this morning.

I've never pushed myself on fs... done a plate now and again, tried 2 before, but I'm not serious enough for them. Anywhere around 400 lbs (180kg) is a lot.

I actually had a bench day yesterday. wow have times changed for me.
225x12
245x12
275x8
295x5
one drop set to 225x7
This was @ 93.7kg bw (206 lbs)

back in the day, my last warmup was @ about 340-350

Gotcha man.

Today was BP day for me as well. 110kg x 6reps x 6sets. First week I've actually made it. Last week I only got 4 reps on the last set :( and the week before that I managed 5reps on the 6th dam set!

I'd probably BP more if I didn't do so much BB training. The BB training is definitely hurting my ability to recover for squats and thus slowing my OLifts due to my weak squats. Side note yesterday I hit 145x4reps on the FS. Felt strong! 87.4kg today. BS felt crazy heavy today. They were suppose to be recovery squats but were more like gut busting squats. I'll just stick to 160x2reps x 6sets for Mondays and hopefully it'll get easier each week.

I'm focusing more on quality of movement in my BP now. Less of a bounce on my chest. I've done 120kg x 10reps about 7 weeks ago.

I think once I've built a decent sized chest I'm going to sack the exercise off. Or just maintain or whatever. Save the time for recovery instead. I prefer DB BP for chest work. I get a much better contraction with DBs.

275!!!! Nice birthday present. (also got 170 on the overhead press).

Sadly, this will be my best for a while as I'm headed into surgery next week and will most likely be out of lifting for a few weeks. Hope I don't lose too much of my gains.

Nice, good luck with the surgery. Read through the thread, a lot different opinions, Z is extreme though. To say a 400lb bench is nothing is just quite arrogant and it is not easily attainable by any stretch of the imagination. And a 160lber with a 405 bench is elite and he is probably like 5'4-5'5.

And after all these years, I still believe when all is said and done, the bench press is still the measure of the man :)

Nice. Good luck with the surgery and you will get your gains back fast anyway :) Slow and steady and your gains will come back. Just don't go crazy with the starting phase post surgery.
