Let us know what extra's you get. I don't know the difference between a p4t-e and p4t533c

Maybe next you can flash it with a DDR bios and get some different multipliers. j/k
 
Ok ....not my good luck today...I could not overclock the P4T533c as good as I could the P4T-E so I tried to flash back to the P4T-E and lots of fast beeps and no post

1) Lots of fast beeps & no post....

2) Un-removable bios chip....

Can you try flashing back to the p4t533c bios?
Can you boot to dos from a 3 1/2in disk?
Some BIOS's have a 'enable bios update' in the menu somewhere. If this isn't enabled you won't be able to flash it.


Time to call Asus for an rma and scratch your head saying you don't know what's wrong.

Ouch. Well, now I guess you might as well get yerself a P4T533.
 
Just fixed a bad flash today with a bios chip hot swap...fun stuff! 😉

Wonder why. Does it even post or something? I think you can still save your board, its not dead yet (I'm not sure how, you better ask).

Btw, if all else fails, just mail Asus and ask them to send you another BIOS chip.
 
ok to clear a few things up...

1) In order to flash the bios...u need to get your mobo to post....my monitor never even gets signal and no post and fast beeps

2) In order to replace the bios chip...your bios chip must be removable...mine is not it is saudered to the board...can u replace that?

I am screwed.
 
Have you tried taking out the battery for a few minutes. And in addition, if your motherboard has it, a jumper clearing the cmos.

Yeah, you pretty much have to RMA the board. Too bad it's soldered on... I had the stupid Asus Winodws based flasher hard lock halfway through on my P4B266-C. I was able to revove the bio though, and Asus just told me to mail them the chip with a check for $5 and they would flash it and send it back...

With a soldered in chip your hands are tied..

Dug...hmmm, to my knowledge...the battery just holds the time information while the BIOS (in my case BAD bios info) is burned into a chip (rom)....clearing the cmos? Have to check into that...in the meantime, I have another P4T-E shipping from new egg. and we be back in the game on tuesday of next week 🙁

Get the TH7II so you can lock the agp/pci and adjust the voltages. Asyncronus fsb adjustments by 1mhz increments.

 
Soldered on? Never knew it was that bad. Now I'm losing a LOT of respect for Asus. You should still be able RMA it though.

Btw, you should buy an Abit TH7 II (and mod it) or one of the newer i850e boards. The P4T-E is good, but its showing its age (156FSB max).
 
Okay, Fkloster, there's always another option. Order another BIOS chip and just solder it on. 😀

Why not just straight buy a P4T533-C instead of getting the older P4T-E?
 
Oh yeah, and... here's something you might be intrested in.

They can give you a replacment chip for 20$, a heck of alot cheaper than getting a new board. Just solder on the new chip and all is good again.

Or how about something that can go above and beyond a 156FSB limitation? I mean if you get to 175FSB with a 3X RDRam multiplier, you're still running PC1050.
 
Or just keep your new P4T-E, order a new BIOS chip, fix the old board and Egay it.

You *did* make sure to buy the one with the updated clock generators, didn't you? It'd be pretty sad to go back to PC800 again.. 😀

You make that sound like it's a simple thing to do...not everyone has the soldering skill to be removing and soldering on new components...

 
NEW INFO!!

The i850E chipset can override multiplier settings and from what i've heard it can auto bump the speed back down to 3X RDRAM multipiler if the board goes over 149MHZ FSB.
 
Insane 3d:Those pins are huge, and there are only a few of them. It's not like your soldering a CPU or something. Besides, you could just take it to a place where they fix TV's or something and ask them to solder it for you.
 
Check out the Aopen i850E board. FSB all the way up to 248Mhz! (992 fsb) with jumperless design and voltage modifications to CPU and the RDRam (not sure about RDRam, but someone on asusboards.com mentioned it). Very interesting indeed.
