fkloster...I'm surprised that you didn't hear that you can't flash back to the P4T-E bios! It's too bad I wasn't on the forums earlier to let you know about this danger. :( Over on the overclockers.com forums, several people figured out that you could flash to the P4T533-C bios, but that you couldn't flash back.

At any rate, you might want to check over there to see if anyone has a solution (IIRC, the bios chip is shot, so you WILL need a new one). Once again, sorry to hear about your board's untimely demise!

You make that sound like it's a simple thing to do...not everyone has the soldering skill to be removing and soldering on new components...

<cough>Metcal MX-500DS-11<cough> :)

We had a flashback in our engine room today. Scared the bejesus out of me! :Q

Cheers!

Thanks for the heads up on that site, I am working on a computer that got pwn3d by CIH and it smoked the bios. Looks like the dorkus will only be out $20 instead of me having to find him a new motherboard.

Well, here's something you've probably tried, but just in case...

Some mobos, if they try and post but find a corrupt bios, will automatically check a floppy for a bios fix and reflash itself after a set amount of time (I had an abit board a long, long time ago that took literally 5 minutes to do this), but after it flashed itself it worked again... all I needed was the flash utility and the bios file on the disk and it worked... good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, on this particular board you pull the cmos reset jumper completely off, insert the floppy w/ utility and bios and give it a go. Unfortunately it didn't work..... That was my last resort. But now it looks like there is some hope again.

Ok Update....I just got my new P4T-E and my retail 9700pro....

1) This board does not over clock as good as old one &
2) This 9700 does not like an overclocked FSB....therefor I DID IT AGAIN!!!

I flashed it to 1006C bios for the P4T-533C and am running @ the 120/30 setting (25x120x1.7v) = 3ghz

I PROMISE I WON'T FLASH BACK THIS TIME :p

Trust me...if you own a P4T-E with bios 1007e installed...you can flash your bios to P4T-533c bios 1006c....THIS IS FACT!!!

So let me get this straightened out here. With the p4t-533c bios, you can adjust vcore to 1.7 with your p4t-e? Hmmm, very interesting. Got some benchies?

Yes the P4T-E only has voltage up to 1.675 and NO easlily accesable dividers...

The 533c has voltage up into the stratousphere (1.875?) and lots of easy soft menu dividers i.e. 133/33 120/30 ect...

In addition....P4T-E is worth 145

the 533c is worth 175

Sweet. I didn't even know you could up your vcore on the P4T-E using the bios! :)

Last couple of questions. The softmenu, meaning you can use bios to set fsb settings? Also, since you are running at 120/30 dividers and hence running "out-of-specifications", any ill effects on your pci/agp bus with your current cards (stability/corruption wise)? Lastly, is it better to run "over" spec or "under" spec for pci/agp (I'm assuming your 120/30 is under spec)?

TIA!

I've read at Asusboards.com that even though the bios has higher voltage settings when flashed to the P4T533-C bios, that they do absolutely nothing over what the board is supposed to do.

I would suggest you guys read through this thread carefully before flashing. It is a few months old but is relevant still if you're thinking about flashing.

Discussion on the bios flash.

It worked fine. I didn't hesitate to flash this board because I purchased it for $50.00 refurbished. This solve my agp/pci divider problem. Needless to say, my 1.6A is running at 2.1 within specs to accommodate my Radeon 9700 Pro which does not like an overclocked agp bus. I have a 2.0a and will see if this will do 2.6. Anyway, I am very happy with the outcome. Oh, did I mention that I am running PC1066. I bought the memory first and then I was going to buy the board, (P4T533-C), but the Radeon put a dent in that plan. So far everything worked good.

Happy Camper!!!
