UPDATE!!!! Dilemma in the dojo - should I kick this kid's ass?

I'm in a branch dojo that has about 20 clubs under the HQ dojo. And there's this kid in another club that's pissing me off - and we have a little history, so let me elaborate:

I've promoted on a slower rate than most anyone else in the dojo (2~3x), so when I transferred over to this club from my last one, the aforementioned kid (let's call him "F", because I don't remember his name) wasn't even in there - now he's surpassed my level, which I have no problem with.

And our HQ hosts a couple of large-scale tournaments and I've seen his face and competed against him a few times and I know that he's a cocky SOB.

But last year, in our annual inner-school tournament, my friend Josh went up against "F" - and won. Now he started bawling and screaming that the judges' decision was BS, and throws around a chair for good measure. Now, since this was an inner-school tournament, every instructor knew each other, and "F"'s instructor had to pull him to a corner and talk to him in front of everyone and even the head master - BIG loss of face.

Fast forward to last month - I was up for promotion, and one of the requirements was that we go and face against upper level black belts in sparring - I pride myself as being competant, so I don't get too worried - and I get to go up with this stupid motherfvcker - oh joy. When the round begins, even though my instructor, who was the one leading the promotion, told us specifically to go "light to no cantact", he goes hard - I'm slightly annoyed, but I'm tired (as opposed to him, who only had to spar), so I don't care - I go through the motion and wait until the round ends. The round ends, so I put my guard down - but that idiot continues on while everyone is standing still! He gets pulled off to the side and gets reprimended for his conduct while I have to go on with promotion.

Later I find out that he walked over to the head master and tried to convince him that it was MY fault (this is what pisses me off) even though the head master was watching the promotion himself. After the promotion, that fvcker walks over to me and tries to make smalltalk. I'm tired and since this is just a promotion, I don't want to make a scene and make my instructor lose face, so I make a little small talk and politely ignore him.

Now, in three weeks, there's an inner school tournament coming up, and I'm itching to kick his little skinny ass - he wants full contact? Fine - my original school was full-contact based and I have no problems with that . . . but as much as I want to break every single piece of bone in his pitiful little body, I know that as an instructor to my kids, I really shouldn't do that in addition to dirtying my instrutor's name . . . what should I do?

Give a fool enough rope and eventually they'll hang themselves.

Just try and avoid him. Engaging in any sort of conflict with him will sully your reputation by association.

come and wax on wax off my car...

🙂

i think u should be respectful and take the higher road. can you talk to your instructor about this? Maybe he can help.

Well, this is more or less a grudge thing, so there's nothing much I can really do about it . . . and considering that I'm one of the head instructors now (our former one got recruited by the FBI . . ..), there's no one I can really talk to as well.

Beat him clean. It will piss him off more...then kick his ass outside if he confronts you.

what if he beats YOU up?

Hahaha good question - it did happen before, but well . . . I don't want to put any excuses. I lost to him before, and it's a possibility now I guess. If I lose, it'll give me incentive to train harder until I DO beat him I suppose. Either that, or spiral down into a little ball of spite and bitterness. Either way . . ..

I know I'm being cocky, but I know I can win.

Drop it and move on. I always thought the main goal of training in martial arts was self-discipline. Show your teacher and yourself that you are actually making progress and let this other student be who he is. Hopefully you have a good teacher who will finally decide that this person is dishonoring your school and ask him to leave.

Teach this little fvck a lesson. Not to mess around with people. I taught some poeple that and they learned. 😀

dont join the dark side!
Seriously, you should only be concentrating on your skill and not your anger.
Your sensei invested lots of time in teaching you, dont spit in his face.

Kick his ass cleanly and then be a good sport about it. He's obviously got big insecurity problems, and it's so easy to make them fester just by being better and acting like it was nothing.

ya!

kick his ass cleanly!

Did you get the promotion? If so who cares?

This F kid will get what is coming to him eventually, but it shouldn't be you who gives it to him. When you fight him, fight your hardest and try your best, but do not do anything illegal or intended to hurt him. Not only will you have stooped to his level, but you will also regret it. I know this because you posted this asking for opinions. You obviously know it would be wrong. You shouldn't second guess yourself.

The majority of you has the "right" idea, I suppose - and when I look back on itin writing, it does seem a little insignificant . . . I don't know - I've been in plenty of situations where I could've *easily* (at least in my head) beat some idiot senseless . . . but held back due to me being righteous and whatnot. *sigh* I suppose this will be one of those things, as much as I don't want it to be. 🙁

On the other hand, all this suppression of my emotions can't be good for my emotional health. 😀

Ask you teacher to instruct you in how to not feel those feelings. World is full of jerks and your becoming dangerous. You don't want to be showing Bubba your new roommate any "new moves do ya?

It is good that you are getting your anger out in the forums. I would hate to think a black belt in any discipline would be so juvenile to actually attempt what you are discussing. Self-defense is about control, kicking someone's ass out of anger is a loss of control. You should demonstrate control and let him be an idiot.

But then who am I to talk because I am not a black belt. Yet.
