well, my S200 order was cancelled today, apparently "upon my request" which must be how dell interprets my calling them a week ago and telling 2 CSRs that I want to wait for the order. in any case, my S330 is still "being processed" so I won't call up and complain yet...maybe I'll get lucky today and find a nice shiny package in my mail

looks like they've put the S200 back on their website (from Nastycar off FW): here --- although, it still shows "out of stock"

My S200 got cancelled also. I called and quickly had it reinstated at the same price (289.10) . I received an email on 4/16 telling me to call to keep order active, which I did, but they canceled anyway. The CSR had no problems reinstating it though. ETA 5/2?

my S330 came today...so it's good my S200 was cancelled on me. I can't say I'm excited anymore though, because I took a few pictures - the quality is horrible. the colors are off, images are fuzzy, looking closely at the image shows blotches of red/green (is this image noise?)...what's the deal? I have it on 1600x1200 superfine. it's got to be something I'm doing wrong, because of all of the great reviews, but I've been playing with the settings and the images are not good at all. just out of curiousity, is the S330 box supposed to come shrink-wrapped? mine wasn't so I'm wondering if maybe it was a returned unit?

I think I'm far less knowledgeable about photography than I thought, for one thing. what constitutes low lighting? the pictures do look much much better with the flash, but they still have soft, fuzzy, overcompressed jpeg look (though it's on 1600x1200 superfine). I'm going to mess around with it more tonight until I figure out the settings better

mr. qwex (?--hope i spelled it right :)), please post some pics if you can. can tell you that my s10 didn't have shrinkwrap, in fact, can tell you that i have NEVER seen a canon powershot digicam box in shrinkwrap--and i am ALWAYS shopping. this was brought up back in the od canon s10/s100 deal (for some :)), and i think it may still hold true--check your invoice?
try this for low-light shooting... don't use the lcd or the viewfinder, try the red-eye lamp. the red light shows pretty much what one is aiming with this camera. i wish i could say this all technical-like and add weight to my suggestion, but ol boy was the one who showed it to me. lmk if it works or doesn't work for you all. good lucks

Dumb question, but why CF card readers if the included USB cable can do the job of downloading pictures onto the computer? Is the CF card reader much faster? If so, approximately how much faster?

You use CF card readers because you can transfer and view the pictures using win explorer, and you don't have to use the provided software/drivers. That's assuming you get a good card reader that doesn't need drivers and just shows up as another drive when you plug it in.

i know OS X and WinXP have better digital camera support for "plug and play" and being able to see the pics right off the camera (as well as seeing many USB readers). i have the pqi 6 in 1 travel flash reader (very small - about the size of the S300/S330 itself - just alot more slimmer). i had to go through quite a bit of trouble installing the drivers on Win2000, but when I loaded WinXP and plugged it in, it recognized 3 of the drives right off the bat.

using a separate card reader also saves battery power since you don't need the camera on to transfer files

So what's a good CF card reader that doesn't need any drivers? jplee3, are you referring to the Dazzle 6-in-1 media reader? Does it require any other drivers after the 3 drivers are automatically recognized?

OMG DELL SUX0RS UP THE BUTT0RS

I got an email today that my order would be cancelled within 48 hrs if I didn't reply. So I called them up and ask them to keep the order, they switch me to another dept. That dept says its the wrong dept and that I have to go back. I get switched to an automated machine, then I have to go back. I get another rep, she says that the "Order reception dept is closed." and that I need to wait until 12pm. So then, I call back and finally get it to stay. WTF they are trying to bs me so hard. I must have done 4-5 loops in depts. OH WELL BASTAGES!!!!!

I received an e-mal this morning stating my S200 order has been delayed until around 5/10/02 and I need to give my consent to continue with the order before 4/28/02 or the order will be cancelled.

I'll send them an e-mail tonight.

Cheese78CA,
no this reader is not the same as the Dazzle 6-in-1. it's made by PQI: text - it's really small and compact... i think it's smaller than the Dazzle if i recall....

Forgot when I ordered this but I got my order cancelled, no call or email notification, just went up on the web and it was gone. None of the three reps I called knew why it was cancelled. Here's a great conversation I had w/ thier first line of defense

Me: "So my order # XXXX was canceled and I don't know why"
Dell rep: " OK let's find it <wait> Alright I see it, it was cancelled"
Me: " Yup, can I get that un-cancelled?"
Dell rep: " Sure let me quote you a price, uhhhhhh $349?"
Me: "No, I ordered it for $289.10"
Dell rep: " Well I'm not authorized to change the price"
me: "OK, can you transfer me to someone who can authorize that, and can you tell me why you cancelled this and when?"
<<<I could see we hit this persons intellectual limit when I asked this, but I was feeling lucky>>>>>>
Dell rep: " Hmmmmm, well it doesn't say when it was cancelled, but it says you should contact a dell customer service rep."
Me: <long pause as I smack my head against the table>
<<< Now I don't claim to know the Dell org chart but when I call a number from thier website that says customer service in front of it, I might be going out on a limb here, but I'm assuming I'm talking to a customer service rep, anyway back to the story >>>>>
Me: "Well, aren't you a customer service rep??"
Dell rep: "Yes."
Me: "OooooK, let's forget why it was cancelled can you transfer me to someone authorized to reorder this at the same price"

After this I talked to one other person who was zero help. Then finally onto someone who asked how I got such a low price, I told him and he came back and reordered it for my original price, BUT like everyone else I'm at the back of the line ETA: 7/6/02

I really don't understand how some people get through life. . . .

anyway I'm just venting now, I will still buy from Dell and in the end this will get solved. Everyone was very nice, you just have to realize it's not thier fault thier so stupid. :)
