Men's Wearhouse FTW. You get a custom tailored suit and life time adjustments for free. It's affordable, it's comfortable, and they have good customer service. I wouldn't waste my money on name brand suit from department stores that won't fit you.

If you're looking for a suit you can be confident in, get a jumpsuit, orange with serial numbers on it.

i got lucky at men's wearhouse, got my pierre cardin 4-button single breasted suit for 200, was 800. good luck.

Winner.

Sorry, I think you meant to type: "FTL"

Do not, under any circumstance buy a 4-button suit unless you're a basketball player (ie, really tall). 4-button suits are way out of style, hell, for the average person it was never in style to begin with.

The style today is "classic+refined". Meaning, unless you're portly you're going to want a traditional-color suit with a slender cut.

While pinstripes are cool, I wouldn't wear a pin-stripe suit to an interview (unless it's a hip/trendy place).

If you're going to buy ONE suit buy black. It can go with everything. Now, it's your choice to go with three or two-button. The "look" right now is the two button that has the buttons placed more like a three-button suit has them, giving a smaller overall "visible shirt opening" (I'm sure there's an actual name for this). Peaked lapels seems to be what's "in" as well but personally I prefer the notched look.

Also, get the damn thing tailored. It may cost an extra $20-30 but we're all different sizes. You want this suit to fit as best as possible.

There you go. $300 is the minimum I'd pay for a suit, yet, you can certainly find something "good enough" in that price range if it's on sale.

Cliffs:
1. NO 4-button suit. Go three or a modern-looking two
2. If only one suit go BLACK
3. It should fit, even if it is cheap spend the $20-30 to have it properly tailored.
4. Peaked-lapel or notched; choice is yours. Just don't go tuxedo. ;)

That should be it.

Stay the fock away from the Mens Warehouse! JC Penney is friggin crap and Macy's aint much better.

If you are just buying the one suit to do interview with and never plan on wearing it again I'd spend the extra money to look good. Why? Well you can wear this to Funerals and Weddings as well + this is your future, bad suit = low self confidence = no job!

Big fan of the Dk gray or Navy blue suit. Stay away from patterns & stripes. Stick with a 2-3 button suit. 4-button is for NBA ballaz yo! Also, go with a plain white shirt on your fist interview, if you get a 2nd interview wear the same suit but get a more colorful shirt with a bolder tie. 2nd interview attire should show attitude that you already have the job.

Go with a classic fit and ensure you get a cuff on your pants. No french cuff shirts either.

Half of the suit purchase is in the tailoring. So buying a suit from the RACK or Marshall may sound good but who's gonna be your tailor? If you pay full price at Nordstroms tailoring is free and guranteed!!! If you can find one in your area I would suggest Patrick James. Customer service is amazing and they will spend hours with you making sure everything is just right.

Next up is shoes & belt. Go with leather soled wingtip variation in black with a matching belt. No bling on the buckle either. Brass or chrome is fine, just keep the bling to a minimum.

Spent $800 on my suit
$160 on two shirts
$290 on shoes
$80 on belt
$130 2 ties

I got the job! Interviewed in my suit 4-times in college, had graduation pics taken in em, and now 5 1/2 yrs later wore my suit/shirt/tie/belt/shoe combo and got that job too.

you are not too bright either, you can get donna karans at men's wearhouse. he has no need for 290 dollar shoes, something 100 is good enough, 150 at most. no need to spend 80 on belts, 30-40 on a kenneth cole is good. dkny ties are 30 dollars each at macy's. your

points:

- get a black 2-3 button double breasted 100%worsted wool suit (mid weight) for your first "generic" suit. You can go with Navy if it's more for business. A black suit will be the most versitile.
- Flat front pants look nicer and are more modern IMO. Don't let the pants be the deciding factor.
- Try the suit on and make sure you can move in it easily. Also, make sure it doesn't bunch up when you sit down. It should hang well.
- You are going to need shoes, a belt, a decent hangar (cedar is nice), preferably two shirts (1 white, the other whatever color you want) and 2 ties to match your shirts. Personally I have two combinations, one is a classic look with a white shirt and solid tie, the other is a little more modern with a blue shirt and a pattern tie.
- Expect to pay around $300-500 for a decent quality suit, don't get sucked into anything much higher.
- You should be able to get the suit tailored for around $50 depending on how much work needs to be done.
- optionally if you don't plan on wearing the suit often you might look into getting "shoe trees" so the shoes don't lose their shape and a bag to hang your suit in.

I got my first suit at Men's Wearhouse. I eneded up paying around $650 for a nice suit with shoes, a belt, two shirts, two ties, custom tailoring and some other misc items. I find their prices pretty good but their sales staff can be a bit pushy, they will press hard to sell you items that you don't really need. You should do well there as long as you stick to your guns and only get what you planned to pay for.

Hey there, just thought I'd drop in with my experience. I bought my first suit about 2 weeks ago. I spent alot of time looking at different places (men's wearhouse etc.) and ended up with one from Macy's that was on sale. I went with a black 2 button with pinstripes (though I'm looking for a job in advertising/creative. Pinstripes may not be right for you) I liked the suit quite a bit and got it tailored for $26 I just picked it up last week and am quite pleased with my purchase. The total price ended up just over $200 for an Alfani Suit, which if I remember correctly was originally about $500 the salesman was helpful but busy, and the tailor they had on site seemed very knowledgable. It does seem that they are having a sale now, check out the Website for details. Good luck!

Yup, pinstripes may be perfect for an advertising gig (pinstripes with a matching bold shirt & tie FTW!) but could be interview suicide for a, say, HR position (where I would go black or navy, white shirt, and either red or blue tie (I'd go with a biased-striped tie since I'm that way)).

DK what? She makes how many different lines of clothing? Just like every designer they have different levels and will gladly whore their name out to make a buck to unsuspecting fools.

Yeah, he should buy some Kenneth Cole Reaction belts, no worry that they will look like ass after 3-months of use as I'm sure he is going to wear a dress belt 2-3 days a week. Leather will crack, be bunched up, and start to peel.

Shoe me a decent pair of $100 shoes that are comfortable, hold a shine, don't crack or show creases. Please! Kenneth Coles will set you back $150, Ecco $200, Allen Edmonds, $275, Mezlan $225, Cole Haan $225+.

Once you have a nice tie you will appreciate how easy it is to make that tie look great, ease of tying the tie as well.

Buying your first suit is not a time to skimp and be cheap, this is his future. Nothing worse than conducting an interview with someone who has a ill fitting suit with unshined shoes and wrinkled shirt!

Just go to goodwill. Nice selection, and the price can't be beat. Maybe the styles a bit dated.. but hey the price is great.

Or just go to mens wearhouse. They took good care of me.

whatever you do make sure it fits you well, especially in the shoulders. If you don't like the alterations, then don't accept it until it fits properly.

nothing worse than a good suit that doesn't fit.

I like being pampered at a men's suit store. It is one of the few and only times I enjoy clothes shopping..

"I'm dropping cash here...I need to see more ass kissing"

<---not metro, just have tons of suits after wearing them for 12+ years.

Brown suit, black shoes, and blue shirt?

Are you color blind? And of equal importance, was the salesperson color blind?

Again, the suit isn't the color brown that your thinking of. In fact it looks almost black. We had to look at the label a few times to make sure that it wasn't mislabeled. You need to see it in person. I'll post some pics of the full attire tomorrow when I get the chance.

Also, the blue shirt is the very light variety. It's hard for me to explain on the internet.

Guess I'll wait for the pics then! LOL

But even if it's dark brown and looks almost black inside, trust me - others will notice that it is brown especially in sunlight. The brown with the black shoes is OK but not with any kind of blue shirt. Oh well...waiting for the pics now. :)

I went through this whole thing when I was buying a suit for my wedding. I saw a black suit, but the wife and the girl working at the Boss store could tell it was very dark blue.

The sales girl finally turned over the lapel to show me that the felt underneath was blue. This was the only way that I could tell black and blue from one another.
