Convicted felon Byron Williams loaded up his mother's Toyota Tundra with guns, strapped on his body armor and headed to San Francisco late Saturday night with one thing in mind: to kill workers at the American Civil Liberties Union and an environmental foundation, prosecutors say.

Anyone want to try to spin this one? This could have been a devastating tragedy. Hopefully law enforcement will take the threat of right-wing extremists seriously.

A 45-year-old parolee, described by his mother as angry at left-wing politicians, opened fire on California Highway Patrol officers on an Oakland freeway early Sunday and was hit by return fire while wearing body armor, authorities said.

Pathetic and gives some insight into the average idiot mad blaming politicians for everything when they are ultimately responsible for their lives. Maybe he should have spent more time thinking about his criminal acts instead of worrying about "what's happening to the country" which I'm sure he knows nothing about. He is the problem with the country. Just a quitter looking for a scapegoat.

So, any EVIDENCE to suggest that this shooting was in anyway related or motivated by politics?
(Or could it have been that he didn't want to go back to jail???)

I am sure many people involved in shootings are "mad" at one thing or another but that isn't their motivation behind the shooting.

Per his mothers comments that said he was mad at left wing politics
She said she had no explanation for his actions.

Uhh yeah that's why she told the media that her son, "who had been a carpenter and a cabinetmaker before his imprisonment, was angry about his unemployment and about "what's happening to our country."

And it's not like conservatives never snap and get violent because of their views right.... no history of that at all...

But isn't that what you leftists preach? No personal responsibility - the gov't will take care of you...

Anyway, sucks that a cop got shot. Guy goes to work and has to deal with a nut who's last straw broke.

The title you picked for your post reflects poorly on you.

I'm not surprised but I am somewhat disappointed.

I LOL'd at this quote from this morning's paper:
http://www.modbee.com/2010/07/18/125...n-oakland.html

"Williams' mother Janice Williams told the San Francisco Chronicle that her son, who lives next door to her, was angry that as an ex-felon he could not get a job, and upset at "the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items."

The article is much more careful than you at not trying to assign his political beliefs as motives for his actions, they craftily left that up to readers like you.

officers tried to stop a white Toyota Tundra pickup that had been speeding and weaving in and out of traffic on westbound Interstate 580

Sounds more like an ex-con was probably drunk, or getting pulled over for reckless driving, and decided he didn't want to go back to jail, but I am sure that SFGate.com is more than proud of you picking up and carrying the partisan banner they carefully set down for the hacks to carry off to internet forum land.

So I guess he was wearing body armor because he likes the way it feels.

What I don't understand about these folks (this is like the guy who flew the plane into the building a while back), is why they go take out their frustrations on peon's of the System?

Don't go shoot a cop, or a peon IRS worker....go to the big shots who are the ones making the calls and pop a cap in their @ss, at least your anger will be directed at a more appropriate person.

Sheesh....

You guys? I'm not part of any group....

I'm merely saying, if you're going to get mad at policies/law/whatever, and have chosen to take drastic action, for gods sake, don't go take it against a peon who had nothing to do with it becoming such.

Go take the drastic action against those who made it happen.

If you're a war protestor, don't go shoot a soldier because you want the war to stop...if you have determined that you will shoot someone, then go shoot the Politician closest to you that voted for the war. Or SecDef. Or POTUS.

You likely won't succeed, but, at least your taking your action out on someone who had a real part in what you don't like.

That's all I'm saying.

Maybe, do you have any facts backing up that he was wearing it because went out to shoot cops because he was an angry right winger?

Not specifically cops, but he was an angry right-winger, he was wearing body armor, and he had stolen all of his mothers guns and ammo and had it all in the car with him!

- he had emptied his mother's gun cabinet before leaving on his little trip, and was armed with a high-powered hunting rifle as well as a handgun, a shotgun, a small explosive device of some kind, and a few other things. A CHP spokesman told the press it was clear that Williams intended to harm someone or some group of people, and he was about 12 minutes from downtown San Francisco where he was stopped.
But, but, but . . . he came from such a nice home!

His mother speaks:

Williams watched the news on television and was upset by "the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items," his mother said.
...
Janice Williams said she kept the guns because "eventually, I think we're going to be caught up in a revolution." But she said she had told her son many times that "he didn't have to be on the front lines."
How much more evidence do you need before you will admit the obvious?

This guy was wearing body armor and loaded for bear and speeding towards San Fransisco. He was just 12 minutes from downtown SF when he was stopped.

As the CHP said, "...it was clear that Williams intended to harm someone or some group of people..."

from your link...

"Bedell was a registered Democrat,[14] although he held anti-government views.[15] A blog on Blogspot named Rothbardix (a probable reference to anarcho-capitalist Murray Rothbard), that appears to be authored by Bedell,[16] subscribes to many libertarian beliefs, including, "The most basic principle of economic justice is the protection of private property and the protection of the right to freely exchange that property. Modern governments, however, consistently and routinely violate the rights of property owners..."[17] Bedell also complained about the size of the United States government, organized theft by the government of citizen's personal property, government control of the economy including "[T]he constantly expanding regulation of business." Bedell also seems to suggest the United States government is controlled by an elite group of people and in his final paragraph of his last posting wrote, "The blatant violations of the Constitution's limitations on the economic role of the government, accomplished through many subtle usurpations over many decades, are perhaps even more pernicious than, and are certainly a key motivation for, the violent seizure of the United States government."[17]"

Seems like he was the first teabagger. you guys should erect a memorial for him.

Registered Democrat. If you don't want him than stop lumping everyone else together, it's very weak.

Maybe he was going to rob a bank, any facts to back up him being any "angry right winger" out to kill liberals, or is it just partisan BS?
