Question for the masses:

I started on my bulk diet a few weeks ago, and I've noticed only after 2 weeks my strength has gone up drastically. But what is weird, is that at the beginning of my bulking phase, I got braces put on my teeth, so I actually started consuming less food. I've noticed my chest lifts have gone up considerably and everything else has gone up a little more so. For example: I started doing weighted dips again and could do only 3 sets/6 reps of 25lbs, two days ago, I was able to do 3 sets/6 reps of 90lbs (two plates) with relative ease. I'm not taking any crazy drugs or anything, actually my diet is not very calorically dense:

Morning:
Pre-workout:
1 scoop whey
1 orange
NO booster

Post:
2 scoops whey
3 scoops MuscleTech Halo
1 Animal Pak

Mid morning:
6 eggs
1 cup oats
1 Tbsp peanut butter

Afternoon:
Gainer shake w/20oz milk

Late afternoon:
Muscle milk

Dinner:
8oz salmon
2 cups veggies

Bedtime:
1 scoop casein
1 Tbsp peanut butter
12oz milk

I know I'm drinking a lot, but my teeth are very sensitive still from the braces so I really don't have a whole lot of choice. Can anyone care to explain why the gains are so high? I was kind of floored by it. I'm not trying to brag but usually bulking the weight go up maybe 5-10lbs a week if I'm lucky. My bench shot up around 40 lbs as well.

It's normal when you start working out to see huge gains. Plus your diet looks pretty dam clean with a lot of whey so it's normal. You'll plateau eventually, so enjoy your gains now! Oh and congrats... ;)

start working out? I've been working out for years! I just came off a cut phase for the past 8 months. It just seems incredibly strange to me.

Just take it and go, man. All we can do is stand here and be jealous. There's no real, good explanation for it. Perhaps you honed in your form?

I'm thinking that might be a possibility too. I know my squat form was really bad (was leaning too far forward going past my knee's) and I went to the doc's and got a knee brace. I since then am extremely focused on getting good form in general to avoid further injury. Oh well. Weird.

Could be any number of things: maybe you just weren't pushing yourself as intensely before, or your diet was terrible beforehand and switching to a bulk not only added calories but fixed other gaping holes, you're getting more sleep, your technique has drastically improved, or maybe a combination of things. Enjoy it while you can and be careful to not push too far to quickly as your joints/tendons/ligaments may take longer to adapt to the huge jump in weight than your muscles.
