Apparently Apple got an early start on iPhone 4 CDMA production - it too is Limera1n vulnerable, leading to it being Jailbroken for life. Greenpois0n RC6 can already jailbreak it, and technically it's not out for another 2 days yet.

I just updated to 4.2.1 and untethered it with redsnow. No issues so far. I added AirPrint back to my MacBook Pro. It's pretty slick!

works great! 4.2.1 on ipod4, ipad, iphone4

greenpoison is flawless just remove the hosts file block on gs.apple.com and do an update and then hit it with greenpoison.

Now when you say works great... did you upgrade from an already jailbroken phone? I'm just trying to gauge how annoying it'll be to update to clean 4.2.1, then jailbreak it and hope all of my apps stay intact throughout the process. I've never had a jailbreak go that smoothly and am wondering if this finally is that smooth.

Also, remove the hosts file block? The GP readme makes no mention of this.

edit: Found out about my 1st question. Greenpoison requires a fresh restored copy of 4.2.1 so updating and then jailbreaking is not an option. Makes everything incredibly more difficult, so I'll probably wait some more. I'd still like an explanation about the hosts file thing though.

Curious to see if anyone know this or I have to do more digging.
For 3GS with the new bootrom.
My object is to have untethered JB/unlocked.
It wasn't possible with redsn0w before or is it possible now....
How about greenpois0n ?? Does it let you upgrade the baseband to 6.15.00 to unlock ??
Thanks.

If you currently are unlocked, then I believe you can use tinyumbrella to upgrade to 4.2.1 without changing your baseband, thus keeping your unlockable baseband. Then you can jailbreak with greenpoison. You'll have to dig deeper but I think the key is tinyumbrella for you.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear but I was refering to 3GS on 4.2.1
All can be JB/unlock but depending on the bootrom, it will be untethered or tethered.
I'm refering to the newer bootrom.
Before you can JB it using redsn0w and by upgrading the baseband to 6.15.00(ipad), you can unlock it using ultrasn0w.
The problem with this is it was tethered.
I'm wondering if you can use greenpois0n to untethered JB and also upgrade the baseband to 6.15.00

1. remove gs.apple.com from hosts
2. upgrade using itunes
3. greenpoison/cydia/installous
4. done.

no restore or anything. if you don't remove the hosts entry the baseband upgrade will fail and stuck in DFU mode and you are restoring. ask me how i know this. ;)

It's not as complex as it sounds. All you have to do is backup your iPhone, install 4.2.1, jailbreak, and then restore the backup. The only "hard" part is that you have to reinstall any Cydia applications manually.

and even that's not hard and can be automated using pkgbackup or using dpkg through ssh. A few commands via terminal and you have a complete list of all cydia packages that you can feed back to dpkg to install all your packages.

Finally had enough time to update and jailbreak 4.2.1. So far so good, and my push notifications are working again which is the important part.

This is a good way to activate through iTunes and get legitimate push notifications.

I tried a few different apps like that when push wasn't working and it didn't fix anything. I'm not sure what my issue was, but it wasn't what those apps were designed to fix. It's all in the past now though. I'm just glad I can finally get my score updates again.

This makes it legit though. It's hard to explain, but it works.

I know what it does. My point is that I've used this before and it didn't do anything for my issue. So my issues weren't related to a non-legit activation like this fixes. I'm not sure what my problem was, but it wasn't connected to the activation thing. I didn't have to hacktivate anything, it's a legit iphone4 bought retail and used on AT&T.

Still, the whole point is moot now as whatever issues I had in 4.1 seem to be fixed with my update to 4.2.1 and re-jailbreak.

Good lord,this is confusing...so can my iphone 4 - 4.2.1 be unlocked now ?

Depends on your modem firmware (Settings -> General -> About). If it is higher than 01.59.00 then no. But rumors are that iPhone Dev Team has an update to ultrasn0w that can unlock the newer iPhone 4 modem firmwares.
