been playing unreal 2 for 2 days now, and have to say its a pretty OK shooter.. Nothing really that inpressive. The graphics are nice but the cutscenes and movies are IMHO very low quality and cheaply done.

Also when you are running, im not quite getting the sence of speed like in UT and UT2k3, where when you run, it really looks like youre running and the action is fast and furious.

Overall the games nice for a little braindead shooting when bored, but its nothing revolutionary

Thats how I feel about it, be prepared to be flamed by the "BEST GAME EVAR" crowd. Another thing is that everytime there is any sort of combat it just turns into a massive shoot-fest, can't even tell what your shooting at.

Why so formal?

Interesting. Er...hey guys, how do I view the FPS counter during gameplay? And what's a good standard demo file to run a timedemo upon?

FYI: Unreal 2 has problems with the nVidia Detonator Drivers version 4072. If you are getting screwed up models, update your video drivers to nVidia's latest.

I'm still using the 30.82 drivers and everything works fine. I've tried several of the newer drivers and they have a tendency to make my games crash for some reason.

Yea, my friend is using those successfully too. So far as I know it is mainly the 4072 drivers and maybe some others around that time period. I updated to nVidia's newest drivers (because I didn't want to downgrade to 30's) and the game worked smoothly like it should.

Also, Don't enable EAX or you will crash like a mother. :)

EAX is almost worthless, IMO. Sounds like you're in a metal tunnel all the time and is a huge performance hit to boot. No thanks. It's sad that A3D went the way of the dodo....much better surround effects.

Yeah the 41.xx ones work great and run the game faster. It's a really good looking game. Best out now for sure, only to be toppled by Doom3 I guess. The gameplay is not really horrible either.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the "BEST GAME EVAR" but it is very good. It does remind me of half life like someone said earlier. The graphics are great and it has cool scripted sequences. The mood and tension are very well done.

I agree, only problem I have with it is that its rather short, I'll wait untill an addon pack is released to actually buy it

pros: graphics are quite well done, except the repetitive and obligatory cutscenes. The guns are original, and pure eye candy (excluding the fubar'd sniper rifle).

cons: same creatures over and over. linear gameplay. no replayability. tries to combine half life with an anime version of star trek. BUt it feels like im playing turok with better textures.

conclusion : not worth the hype. FPS are supposed to be realistic, hence the popularity of battlefield, CS, UT, etc...
