Wii's electricty usage is reasonably low. I believe its something along the lines of 14w or 24w On, and 2.5w in standby (in standby, it can auto-receive updates)

my shuttle machines are pretty low power so i dont mind leaving them on all the time, especially the socket A machine in the bedroom, it takes like 5 minutes to boot. I hooked up my kill-a-watt to the thing and it only pulls about 155 watts with the machine on and TV/stereo off, and about 255 watts under full load.

bro, compared to most machines these days that's a buttload. my c2d machine does about 50 idle and 180 at super duper max load, and i have an 8800gt! 155 idle is crazy, you will save a decent amnt if you shut that thing off

Throw the switch at the breaker box whenever you leave home FTW!

Careful not to throw the whole house though. Not only could you be turning off your fridge, but many fire alarms are hardwired to the house electrical system.

My hydro bill in March was ~$20. After that I bought a new TV, a PS3, plus I started doing DC and my bill in April was ~120. Since then I've stopped doing DC as much and I turn off all of my electonics when I leave the house. Hopefully it will make a difference.

yup, old cpus sucked it down. newer penryn intel supposedly uses as little as 3 watts on idle😛

they have power strips that have a master outlet, so that when you turn that device off, it shuts off power to the other outlets - because of the constant draw of devices.

they also have say 1 or 2 slots where no matter what, power is not shut off - in case you need that for something nearby for whatever reason.

What size refrigerator was used in their test and how did they test the refrigerator? Did the test with the refrigerator include when the compressor cycled?

hmmmm, so you know of a refrigerator that will go an entire year without ever going thru the compressor cycle?

That's what I'm asking. Did they just measure a fridge when the compressor cycle was off to get a really low rating then compare that to a PS3 and Xbox 360?

Besides the compressor, what else USES electricity in a fridge?

Assuming the light isn't on and it isn't a new-fangled fridge with LED displays and all that other crap, of course.

Great, I bet we'll end up seeing energy guides on consoles like the ones you see on major appliances at Sears.
