Somebody woke up the Big Dog, Ryan Howard. Given their crappy 4th and 5th starters and their finally faltering bullpen set-up men, can the Phillies out-not-lose the Mets down the stretch in the vaunted NL East?

Did Howard really have a TRIPLE tonight???? How the hell did he manage that one?

He hit a smash that would have been a HR, but that the strong winds held up and then sheared away from the Braves OF as he looked for the wall and tried to get under it.

You know, Howard's one big fellah who can often look uncoordinated and unatheletic to the untutored outsider. But once he get's going on the bases, he's actually pretty fast, no lie.

So . . . Loooooooog, Hiiiiiiiiiigh fly to wall and being pushed sideways and back by the winds just out of the OF's reach at the wall = triple.

Mets have a 4 game homestand with the Chicago Cubs coming up... they better hope Chicago puts in their scrubs to rest them for the playoffs.

Phils have an easier schedule IMO. METS WILL CHOKE AGAIN!!!

The Cubs magic number to clinch is already only 2. They will have long clinched by the time the Mets play them, and will be resting regulars and not letting their starting pitchers go long.

Both the Phils and the Mets play the Marlins 3 more times. But the Phils have 5 remaining with the Braves, to only 3 for the Mets. I don't think you can really say that the Phils have the decidedly easier remaining schedule, if anything, the Mets do.

Luckily the Mets might be able to sneak in with a WC berth this year. The Mets, Phils and Brewers are all currently tied with identical records for the WC lead.

What about the 'Stros? 3 games back. That would be shockingly hilarious!

I would think the Cubs play most of their regulars in order to keep them fresh. Perhaps they'll rest them in late innings, but the regulars will definitely start. I think Z and Harden will go against the Mets as well.

I think even with the Cubs NOT playing regs they are tougher than the Nats/Braves. Also, Sweet Lou may want to fck the Mets for fun under the guise of "staying fresh"! 😉

Phils currently a half game ahead of the Mets and a full game ahead of the Brew Crew, but, yeah, I take your point.

IMO, I rather have the Phillies play the Cubs and Dodgers the last two weeks than the Marlins and Nationals. The Marlins and Nationals always play us tough.

WOOT. The Big Dog just hit a two run shot to put the Phils back up, 6-5, against the Marlins.

That extends his major league leading totals in both HR's and RBI's to 46 and 140!

Stand back and let the Big Dog eat!

First round and out if they make it.

Likely but depends. You never know in a short series. That's why they play them, you know.

Asses

Looks like the Cubs won't be resting their starters as much as I've hoped...they need the rest, imo.

Phils win again, now up 2.5 games on the Mets. Their magic number is four to clinch the division.
