The HD kit is for the Xbox, not for the monitor. Its just a breakout box that has component cables and opical and analog audio as well. Its the only way to get progressive scan and or the HD resoultions (720p, 1080i).

Does anyone know if this monitor comes with a DVI cable? I checked Dell's site as well as googling and can't find any info on this.

I have just received my monitor ... gorgeous. But I find that I am unable to drive it from my nVidia ultra 5700 at 1920x1200 resolution through DVI. The Analog works great but the max DVI resolution is 1600x1000.

Does anyone know which graphics cards will support the 1920x1200 native resolution?

This is what's reported by Dell.

Others have gotten cards to drive it through DVI by changing various settings.

Thanks. I got mine yesterday and it's just gorgeous. I do get the slight buzzing from the monitor, but I'll live with it. For some reason I can't get the aspect ratio controls for smaller resolution to become available in the Image Settings menu. I'd like to play non-widescreen games without them being automatically stretched to fill the screen, but i can't seem to find a way to do this?

My Radeon 9800 Pro works with native from DVI. I tried it with an older Geforce Nvidia 5200 Ultra and that was no dice through DVI though (as a matter of fact I couldn't get ANY DVI resolution to show up with that card. Maybe the DVI is defective on it).

In the driver try setting the DVI requency lower. Many video cards must use reduced blank interleaving to use over 1600x1200 via DVI of course this isn'tpart of the DVI standard so on the video card box it is only going to say 1600x1200 via DVI. It isn't anything you would ever see so don't think it means its lesser quality or something.

My top right is a fraction darker than the rest of the screen but I can live with it.

Assuming you're using DVI, it's because Fill/Aspect/1:1 (like most IQ settings) are set on the computer. The option to use a centered image (1:1) is available in the latest version of the Cats. I assume there's one for the Dets.

Ok, so I'm a bit confused as to what I need to get video and sound from my new Dell 2405fpw and my Xbox.

First I need the XBox HD Kit, right?

If I have the Intel Desktop Board D865PERL motherboard, what else do I need to listen the audio from the Xbox.

Also, is there something that I can buy that I can hear the audio from the Xbox on headphones and the video on the 2405? I appologize if any of this sounds niave.

Thanks for anyone that can help :)

Well, I know that :p

But the reason why I'm asking the question is b/c of the 2405. I figure people that have the monitor would know exactly what I need to do since they probably figured it out already =) I'm just curious to the solutions previous owners used.

I don't have an xbox but I can make an educated guess. With the xbox HD kit, you'd run the component output to the component input on the 2405FPW. You'd then run the audio out to either your receiver or perhaps the audio input on your mobo. You may need an RCA->3.5mm stereo plug adaptor for that last bit. If you have a receiver set up, you should probably run the audio directly to that.

Ahh, this is what I'm missing I guess. Time to hit up Radio Shack.

Thanks again!

It's almost exactly the footprint of an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper, but its about 1" wider, making it 8.5" x 12" or so.

hmmm.. the shelf area is only a hair over 7" deep, so it would hang over thin air a 1/2 inch in both front and back.. i wonder if it would be stable enough like that.

for this monitor, you'd be justified in adding a little ledge to place it squarely on your desk.
anyone who'd focus on the non-stock base of where this monitor sits (as opposed to the screen itself) would deserve a quick smack to the head. I mean, really. You'd have to crane your head to notice it.

I feel my hesitation waning about getting one of these.
dammit. 9800xt should be able to handle HL2...

Go for it the monitor scales really well to other resolutions in games. 1280x768 should be fine on that and for your 9800xt.

I agree, this monitor does scale very well. Console games look very good, and a PC game running higher res textures and AA/AF at a higher resolution would only look even better.

There is one thing to note. I sold mine recently, and they contacted Dell about transferring the warranty over. Even though their website clearly states that monitors have a 3 year warranty, Dell told him that it only has a 1 year warranty. Just something to consider.

I just ordered mine :) 24 inches headed in my direction :)

Does anyone know if this comes with the DVI cable? and if so how long that cable is?

Also, does anyone use a monitor arm with this LCD? any recommendations for a desk mount (i'll drill some holes in the desk to mount it directly through the desk)

thanks

It comes with these cables: power, USB, VGA, and DVI.

Just make sure to get one that can support a monitor of this size.
