You're *big time* in the minority there. I've read reviews and most of them rate Far Cry very high in the graphics category. Some even use words like "stunning" or "breathtaking" or "revolutionary" do describe them yet you say it looks like a$$? Your opinion I guess...

It runs like a$$ with no AA/AF, and details on "Very High", at 10X7X32, so I see no "Far Cry" retail in my future.

On the bright side, soldier games bore me, so I don't really care there is no Far Cry in my future, waiting for Doom3 and HL2.

Your card is likely the reason it doesnt run so well.

You dont like soldier games? What do you think Doom3 is? And HL2 to an extent. You arent even a soldier in Farcry.

Up pipes the ATI faithful to chime in,"Wah. If you still had your 9800Pro, you could play Far Cry better!" Meh.

Perhaps I should have been clearer Ackmed. Games where the point is to shoot soldiers bore me. Doom 3 I'll be shooting monsters. HL2 will have monsters. What I've seen in the FarCry demo is army guys. I don't care if I am a soldier in a game, I just don't want something as dull as other soldiers to shoot at. Sort of like, "While I agree bears are dangerous, a game that has bears as the enemy would be dull to me".

Looks very nice but plays like a$$ on my rig (the demo that is... dont have full). Started with all the settings on very high w/ 16AA and 2x AF @ 1280x1024x32 and worked my way down. Even w/ all settings to low and AF turned off in game and only 4x AA on the game still plays like a$$. I'm beginning to wonder if the movement is just laggy to begin with. UT2004 (which I just bought) plays like glass w/ all max settings in game at the same rez and 16x AA w/ 4x AF. I'd like to play far cry, but if the demo wont run correctly then I'm not shelling out all that cash for it. My rig should easily be able to play anything on the market right now - so I'm guessing there is a problem somewhere.

Just wondering but does it seem laggy to anyone else? It almost seems like i'm getting "lag" from online play. I have tried mouse sensitivity settings out my a$$ but the targeting system doesn't seem to want to move where i want it to. This is unlike most (if not all) fps games I've ever played where (except for times w/ severe online lag) the targeting system is easy and quick to move.

What is the show fps command for the demo... if there is one?

I keep hearing people say it runs like ass at 1024X768.

Am I the only one who thinks 30-50 fps is good? BTW this is done at 1600X1200.

See sig for system spec.

To see your fps on the console type

I finally got FC to run decently on my system (A64 3200@3400, 1G ram, 9800 Pro). I have it at 1280x1024, everything maxed except Shadows, which I changed to "Low". I also turned off AA and set AF to "1". Runs much, much better now. :)

I just checked my FPS in the demo... running between 25ish min to about 40ish max outside. Like I said it looks very nice but I can't stand the control. It's so hard to get the crosshairs on target... feels sticky...

I didnt say if you had a 9800 Pro it would run better, but it would. It would also run better on a 5900U. Not sure why you get so mad at facts like that. You said you didnt get very good performance. I said what I think is the main bottleneck.

HL has soldiers too, I guess that will bore you? Doom3 may very well have some soldiers to shoot at too. I just dont understand your logic of soldier games bore you, but you are waiting for HL2 and Doom3.

That was the same problem I was having. It was too hard to play that way. Tracking/sighting in on a target took forever!

... those who're mid-ways thru the game laff at ur ignorance
rolleye.gif

Those who have laugh at others "ignorance" for not knowing what's in the middle of a video game have "interesting" standards of intelligence. Or are you just a sad little man taking a potshot flame Vonkhan?

BTW- you'll note that in my quote I said all I've seen is the demo. If they're not smart enough to put something in the demo that makes me think the game will be more interesting than running around shooting army guys, that's not my problem. When I watched the Doom 3 trailer, I knew I would buy it the day it hit the store.
When I played the Far Cry demo, I said, "Who cares?" (even after playing ti on my 9800 Pro)

Myself, I wouldn't have bought it either, but then there ARE reviews...

If you play the research demo you'll get a tease of what to expect besides soldiers.

I'm thinking your distaste revolves more around the realistic/sim style of the gameplay more then anything else(in terms of battling soliders and how those games tend to be made). Can't run @30MPH, aiming is a bit of a PITA, getting shot a couple times(if that) and you are dead0 are those the sort of things that turn you off to this sub genre of FPS?

It runs great on my P4 2.53 1G RAM and FX5950U. It will run even better this weekend when I upgrade my CPU and motherboard.

When I first played the demo it didn't really catch my interest. After hearing other people talk about the game and saying they liked it, I went ahead and bought it. I am glad I did. I haven't played a game this awesome in years.

The visuals and gameplay are great. It's not just another pretty shooter.

Ben, you win for good perception.

I suppose I could have read reviews of the game, but "SOF3" feel of the demo didn't incline me to waste any time at it.

haha runs like syrup on my machine

xp2000
512pc 2100
9500pro

even with everything on low (which looks rubbish) there are still choppiness and slow down problems. i dont care much for the game though. it looks like a bunch of guys went bananna's with DX9 effects....like "its a new technology lets use it for everything!!!" in tryin to make it look more real i think they've only increased teh fakeness of it i think UT2004 , halo and splinter cell look far better than this game.

That's odd Rollo  @10x7 no AA/AF on the first level I never saw less than 40fps for more than a second or 2. Have you tried the patch? A643000+@2.4ghz
1gb 3200DDR
Shuttle AN50R
5800u@525/1080 DET 53.03's

However, on the 2nd level the moment I entered the caves it was indeed accurate to decribe game play as being suck.

You OCd my 5800?!?!? What what what?! Just kidding ;)

What settings for detail? (note: we ahve the same cpu, but yours is clocked 20% higher, which is HUGE)
