Unnecessary laws that would be neat to put into effect

My new law:

Fat people are NOT allowed to have handicapped parking permits (unless they have some other condition requiring a handicapped permit, i.e. in a wheelchair, missing a leg, etc.)...All fat people will be required to park in special parking spaces at the end of the lot farthest from the building.

Parents may not assume their children have Attention Deficit Disorder unless they first remove caffiene and high amounts of sugar from their diets.

ummm... which country are you from? Here in the States REGISTERING with the selective service is not optional, but there is no draft. Yet...

Your comparison is bad, a better one would be dictating a letter to a secretary versus using a speech recognition program. Sure, the speech recognition program is more modern and high-tech. It also gets the wrong word all the time.

Having a human brain controlling the gears is better than a computer, much like having a human brain transcribing speech is better than a computer.

True, but the automatic transmission has existed long before the computer has, although since I'm not a car buff, I'm not sure just how computerized(as opposed to mechanized) cars are today. Still, with that logic, why should auto trannies be installed at all?

the only reason they ARE installed is because people are too lazy to row their own 😉

Apparently they have advantages with offroading (really low speed rock crawling would involve a LOT of clutch work with a manual), but besides that...

oh, and drag racing, but a SMT would totally spank any auto in a drag.

those are basically manual transmissions. The driver selects the gear, the computer does the shifting. Not quite as *fun* as your standard 3-pedal manual, but beats an auto in every single way (except price I guess).

My biggest vendetta against autos is the torque converter (not having a solid connection between engine+tires means more drivetrain loss, more weight) and the fact that you can't choose your gears (which doesn't matter in drag racing, but is vital around the twisties). Given the choice between a manual and a SMT, I'd pick them about 50-50. Manual for fun, SMT for competition.

These restraints may be used by any passenger at any time that the child's parents fail or neglect to restrain their own child. (Note that these restraints may also be used on adults as needed.)
