I just recieved a XP2000 Tbred cpu as a replacement for a xp1600 paly that died. I had the 3 year warranty on it when I purchased it from Monarch Computer. I had paid $130 for the 1600 and told them I would like to get a Tbred that would do 166 fsb for my Abit KX7-333. I got the board in a trade on this board and don't know how old it is. It didn't seem to have any sticker as to what verion number it was, so I assumed it was an early model.
When I got the 2000 tbred, I put it in the board and it fired right up, even though it had an old bios in it. I downloaded the latest bios and flashed it yesterday. It now see's it as properly. I tested it at 166 fsb and it would boot up, but was a little flakey. I increased the vcore to 1.675 and everything seemed fine, but it would crash when running 3DMark2001SE.
I decieded to play with it a little this morning and took out the 2 sticks of AIB PC3500 that I was able to run with all the fastest timings with an unlocked XP1800 paly at 10.5 x 172 fsb and put in a 512 stick of Corsair PC3200C2. When i fired it up I went into bios to change it to 166 fsb and to enable the divisor and just for the fun of it, I thought try the 12 multiplier (instead of the 12.5) and see what happens. It booted right up and Wcpuid shows it as 166 fsb with a multiplier of 12?
I had heard that the nforce boards would "unlock" the cpu's, but this is a VIA chipset? Did I get an unlocked cpu by chance or did the new bios enable this? I don't want to take the CPU out of the board because I have an Alpha Pal 8045 bolt-on HS, but as I recall it is a KIUHB cpu. I know it starts with a K and ends with a B.
Any ideas??
