Unlocked XP2000?

I just recieved a XP2000 Tbred cpu as a replacement for a xp1600 paly that died. I had the 3 year warranty on it when I purchased it from Monarch Computer. I had paid $130 for the 1600 and told them I would like to get a Tbred that would do 166 fsb for my Abit KX7-333. I got the board in a trade on this board and don't know how old it is. It didn't seem to have any sticker as to what verion number it was, so I assumed it was an early model.

When I got the 2000 tbred, I put it in the board and it fired right up, even though it had an old bios in it. I downloaded the latest bios and flashed it yesterday. It now see's it as properly. I tested it at 166 fsb and it would boot up, but was a little flakey. I increased the vcore to 1.675 and everything seemed fine, but it would crash when running 3DMark2001SE.

I decieded to play with it a little this morning and took out the 2 sticks of AIB PC3500 that I was able to run with all the fastest timings with an unlocked XP1800 paly at 10.5 x 172 fsb and put in a 512 stick of Corsair PC3200C2. When i fired it up I went into bios to change it to 166 fsb and to enable the divisor and just for the fun of it, I thought try the 12 multiplier (instead of the 12.5) and see what happens. It booted right up and Wcpuid shows it as 166 fsb with a multiplier of 12?

I had heard that the nforce boards would "unlock" the cpu's, but this is a VIA chipset? Did I get an unlocked cpu by chance or did the new bios enable this? I don't want to take the CPU out of the board because I have an Alpha Pal 8045 bolt-on HS, but as I recall it is a KIUHB cpu. I know it starts with a K and ends with a B.

Any ideas??

I have been playing with it and it seems stable with the bios set to 1.625 vcore. It is running the Prime 95 torture test right now and temp is 39c. At 1.675 vcore it was geting to 40.5 to 41c. At default speed the warmest it got wa 36.5c.

I tried 3Dmark2001SE again and it crashed once and locked up once? When it crashed it gave me a direct x error, something about direct x 8 could only handle 63,xxx vertices?? I only have a Radeon 7000VE in it for a video card right now. My nice one died on me and is in the RMA process. Maybe I should install directx9?

I am going to try and experiment with some other multipliers and see what happens. Any body care to comment? I know this is ancient technology, someone must have been here before? 🙂

Well, I don't know what is going on. It would work at 11, 11.5, 12, 12.5, at 133 fsb but not 13. It wouldn't let me run 11.5 x 166 although it would let me run 12 x 166. At 11.5 x 166 it would say I had a bad config file. I tried it twice and now it won't even post! I have the cmos battery out right now, just clearing cmos didn't seem to help. 🙁

Anybody There??

The mobo powers up, cpu fan and northbridge fan come on but the monitor light just keeps blinking.

I think I have purchased my last Abit product. I downloaded the latest bios for my IT7 a week ago and upped my vcore from 1.675 to 1.725 to see if I could increase the fsb any. Now I have a dead IT7, a dead Ti4400 and a dead Maxtor 60 gig hard drive. Thanks so much for your new bios Abit!! You'll get no more money from me!!

are u sure everything is dead ? did u try utting ur other comp parts (hdd, video card, ) onto a nother system and seeing if it'll boot up?

On my IT7 the mobo is dead, I am using the cpu that was in it in this mobo right now. I tried the video card and the hard drive in 2 other systems with no luck. The hard drive makes a clunking noise, but that's it. It's been long enough I don't remember if the video card powered up? I don't think it did?

On the KX7-333, I am going to take the video card out and try the one in this system in it. I have a radeon 7000 in the kx7-333 and this system has on-board graphics so I will just use it for now. that will tell me if it is the video card that died. I hope that is all it is. I will let you know what happens.

Well, I don't know what happened, but I put the video card from this system into the KX7-333 and still no video. It doesn't even beep. The fans all come on but no beebs and no video. The monitor acts like it isn't getting a signal. What did I wreck?

I say again... ABIT SUCKS!! I upgrade 2 mobo's with the latest bios and they are both dead the same day. I guess you think it is my fault for listening to there press about how they are the greatest overclocking boards in the world? Well, they suck, there support sucks and there RMA policy sucks. I am going to throw away their mobo's and I'm done with them. You will learn eventually....ABIT SUCKS!!!

When my Abit (sucks) IT7 died it took the video card and the hard drive with it. MSI and Maxtor have both issued me a RMA number. Abit wants $25 unless you have a copy of the original invoice. I bought them all used, so I can't come up with that, but MSI and Maxtor don't care. Abit does. That tells me they have a problem with there products failing.

I have an Abit Ti4200 video card that just up and died on me about a month ago. I wasn't overclocking it either, it just died. It was a gift from my Aunt and Uncle who live about 1800 miles away. I tried to get a RMA number for it so I emailed them telling them the deal. They replied and said no exceptions. No invoice, no free replacement. I think that is illegal, but what can you do? It is plain to me that they are a greedy company and don't give a sh*t about the consumer. SO like it or no, I think ABIT SUCKS and I will be putting that in my sig soon!!

That's true. ABIT is teh suxor!!! I had their board fail, and it was a horrible quality board in general. Seemed like a cheap POS. Heck, no wonder - their boards are made by the venerable ECS company. Never again! Now I'm using only Intel made boards and couldn't be happier b/c I don't OC much.
