Sometimes manufacturer can "lock" the ram if it had manufacturing problems. Perhaps what you have is a proccess prototpe for turning "bad" 6970s into good 1gb 6950s? If that is the case i suspect there may be other 6950s out there which are reflashed 6970s due to manufacturing flaw which prevents the sale of them as 6970.

But I never seen a 1GB 6950 with Red PCB and with Bios switch in Reference model. Atlease Google didn't showed me():)

Firstly, you need to check the specs for those GDDR5 chips (should be found online). No sane manufacturer will ship video cards with 2GB total memory and disable half the capacity of them. So whether or not its a HD6970 is moot if the hardware isn't actually there.

PCB layout wont really matter in this case because they can simply use the same board but different memory.

Have an understanding I cannot CONTACT Manufacturer. You can why if you read some of my posts!
