You're not the brightest bulb are you? If you're already in the government and don't have a master's, it's a dam good investment to get an automatic fat raise vs the person who paid double money + probably double time (driving to campus/walking to different classrooms) to get the same promotion.

You are not the brightest bulb either. You know that a lot of state schools offer online courses, right? You dont HAVE to walk to class.

Were you duped into the ripoff of Phoenix?

Well it still means that UoP has some clout if the government will accept it. It may not be the best school, but could net you a lot of money in a lifetime in the public sector.

One thing that I wonder if you could do: take a shtload of classes on UoP and transfer them to your good school for bachelors. I'm about to start my master's in 2 weeks at a very good (and expensive) school but doubt you could do that for any master's program.

At Devry, they have the small writing on the bottom that says most classes will not transfer.

No, I was saying it would be a great deal to take UoP classes and then xfer them into a prestigious program. You'd obviously have to check if they xfer first. Prolly save a lot of money on out of state tuition, in state probably not.

Ah, it makes so much sense now...

You didn't say it had to be online. They do have executive and part time programs.

If you scroll up, it's not hard to see I was responding to a post that referenced 100% online degrees. Why would someone ask if a state college offered a master's degree? There are probably over 100,000 such programs in the country.

"a lot of state schools offer online courses" =/= "100% online degree"

I've actually just started looking into online master's programs from reputable/respected/not-a-diploma-mill schools. Being AD military limits my options as far as being able to attend physical classes, but I have some spare time on occasion and $40,000 in tuition money to burn. I want to start working towards another bachelors as well I think.

Any recommendations?

What are you interested in? If you don't know what you're interested in yet I'd take lower level classes until you find something that sparks you.

I'm a UoP student. My honest opinion of it so far is that it's basically a community college level education that you pay a lot for the online convenience.

Classes basically are a single (generally easy) assignmet each week that counts towards the majority of your grade, and participation points for making a certain number of posts per week to the instructors and other students. You pretty much 'learn' from reading .pdf files that the instructors suggest for the different weekly subjects. So there is knowlege to get out ot it, but no more than if I decided to read wikipedia every few days on the same subjects.

I'm only in 100 level classes right now, I'm hoping that things get a little more challenging after the first block of classes. I'm only going for an associates, I figure I'll get that then look to a different school for any further education, unless of course, the later classes are more challenging and worth while.

Just my honest evaluation of the school after attending for a while.

I'm thinking MBA with an emphasis in IS. If/when I start working towards another bachelors (currently have telecom related BS from a small (not ranked, but accredited) school, GPA was a 3.3 I think, I'd have to double check), I'm debating between another BS in something IS/CS related, or taking it in a different direction, diversify my education. Even if the school doesn't offer 100% online programs, I want a place I can take a fair amount of classes from until I'm out of the military and can go to a campus to finish. I'll be getting reassigned early next year and I'm hoping to pull a location close to a university.

Well the last I heard (and this may have changed recently), the only accreditation that UoP had was by some regional accreditation bureau and I think I heard that UoP owns it. Could be wrong though.

I just managed a project for my team that involved integrating a number of different proprietary software tools, and the experience has made me want to star far away from IS.

Picture constant fighting over scarce development dollars, requirements that change, change, and change again, stuff that never gets nailed down, business constituents that don't have a copmlete picture of the impact and role of their work, and finally, after all the headaches and spreadsheets and hour long meetings, when the testing finally is satisfactory, senior management implements a production feeze and you have to wait 6 months to roll it out.

Honestly though, if you really love IS, this kind of thing won't bother you too much.

As odd as it might sound, if you like programming, you might consider accounting. I was a portfolio accountant for a couple of years and spent lots of time building custom spreadsheets and creating VBASIC macros. To me it was really challenging and fun.
