Simple question that will probably get some mixed views 🙂

But, with millions of people who can't afford or don't receive health care in the U.S., would you support Universal Health Care?

No, I don't support Universal Health Care. Neither my fault nor my problem that some people don't have health insurance...in other words, I like my paycheck and prefer to keep it.

I take it you've never been unemployed and had to accept the $950 per month COBRA offerings from your previous employer. This was for family coverage and does not include dental care - that is another $130 a month. I used to hold the same attitude as you do - until I became unemployed. Now, I can clearly see the need for such a plan. Plus, if you're employed and your employer is picking up 100% of your medical coverage, consider yourself lucky - you're one of the few.

thinking that the you're not paying for your medical coverage is naive.

A universal health care plan of some sort WILL happen someday in the USA.

I just hope it's a good one.

And frankly it's something that is needed imo.

No real human being would tolerate living in a society that didn't care for those who can't care for themselves.

But as long as we live in a society filled with violence and hate, as long as we hate ourselves, hate getting up and going to our torturous meaningless jobs, as long as financial ruin is a paycheck away, as long as life requires tremendous emotional sacrifice just to keep our noses above the sh!t level, we will always hate anybody who gets a free ride. Why should we pour our lives down the drain of indentured servitude when some other clown gets a free bandage. They should have to suffer the tension, misery and uncertainty of the daily rat race dog eat dog tread mill existence as every body else, the worthless swine. I had to claw and brutalize my way to the top, to turn off my feelings and compete ruthlessly to get ahead, why should some worthless dog I left in the dust come back now to bite me in the ass and try to get some crumbs. Screw them. What we need is a system in which the losers just die instead of hanging around begging and joining up with liberals to enact laws to protect their worthless asses.

thats fallacious

It seams clear to me that very few of you know much about UHC, thus you are just reacting and not thinking. I have lived in both New Zealand and Australia, both of which have UHC. While it is true that there are a few problems, it's not as bad as Europe. For on you can be in it or out of it in Aust. Only about 15% of the nation I think pays there own private HC, the rest are on UHC. Every one that is pays a % of there pay toward it, depending on earnings, children, married status, etc. Are there waiting quese for ops? Only for the usual reasons- doners, medical reasons, etc. NZ has the same thing, with one difference. When you go to the doctor you pay a fee. This cuts out the runny noses and such. Children up to a certin age are free of course.
Back to orginal Q. Should they do it here? Yes, but can they get it right? That's the real Q😉

I'm for it, if you haven't commited a felony. I think we should be able to afford it by cutting other areas.

It could potentially be a mess though...

I don't see how we can spend so much money taking "care" of law-breaking people (i.e. jails), but can't afford to take care of law-abiding citizens with health care.

^the above is a bit simplistic, I know 😛

Would you want the same type of people that run the postal service to be in charge of your healthcare?

Why not? The postal service is one example of something that works well in the US.

bwahahahahaha.... you know how many billions of dollars they lose each year?

Oh, but it is your problem. If some uninsured shmuck gets SARS doesn't go see a doctor, and sits next to you on a plane, now it's a problem for you. Would you preffer to keep your paycheck or your life in that situation?

Doesn't China have healthcare for everyone? Lots a good that did for them.

Hey, here's a ratical idea, let's go back to a cash based system. Get rid of third party payees. The current system limits competition. Bring back competition and watch costs plummet.

I think China is using it as population control.
China is a poor country that doesn't spend much per capita to begin with.
The question is are we getting the best bang for our buck with the current system?
We are paying the highest prices in the world for medicines, even though a lot of them are developed here in the US, often with US govenrment funding.

That's because most other countries put caps on costs on medicine and we pay out the ass to make up for it.

Nonsense. Competetion how? I know several MD's who are getting out of medicine simply because the reimbursement rates are such that they now pay out MORE than they earn. Good physicians. Lost forever. Quick, let's remove regulation from the auto makers. That way we can 5 dollar Ferraris. Give me a break.

universal health care ... who could possibly be against that!

now for the funky part - what is "universal health care" and who is going to pay for it?

does universal mean unlimited? everything for everyone?
does universal mean all enclusive?
does it include abortion on demand?
if so, why?
if not, why not?
unlimited viagra for all?
heart transplants for 90 year olds?
universal for all immigrants?
how about illegals?
plastic surgery included? why not!

free food?
free health club membership?
they both directly relate to your health.

sorry to burst your bubble..but NOTHING in this world is "universal"
resources are not infinite
not everyone wants/needs/believes the same things are important/required/correct

not everyone will agree to everything..

so in order to attain that liberal utopian ideal of "universal health care"
someone will have to DICTATE to everyone (otherwise it isn't universal, now is it)
what is available, what isn't available, and what it will cost everyone. once it is
in place, you will have to use it and like it or not there won't be any alternative.

funny how "liberal" ideals ultimately require the goverment to dictate to
everyone what will be available -
isn't that "communism" or one of those other "isms"

i prefer a system where a everyone has a choice, and you get what you pay for.

imagine if there was a "universal" computer you got for free (well, taxes would actually pay for it)
only one model available, no other computers available to buy
everyone gets the same - upgrades would have to be approved by congress (tax increase)..
some people will think it's great............
how about you?

actually they made 600 million this year and wont have to raise rates for another 3 at least because of a pension fvckup costing them something on the order of 2bill/year. the post office rocks.
