I purchased a couple from Steam first was Shadowrun Dragonfall, not bad for a turn based game, second was Xenonauts which is another turn based game and very similar to X-COM games especially the first one, started playing it yesterday and having fun.

It got a lot of hate because of the XCOM name attached to it and it's not a strategy game at all, just a 3rd person shooter.

I just love the setting and art direction.

Dungeon of the endless was pretty good for like 70-80 hours and it's cheap.. Really difficult on the harder difficulty. It's a strategy game with a mix of tower defense/RPG/economy using 4 characters that can level and wear a few pieces of gear each. Beat 15 floors to win. Graphics are simple, music is really good.

Rogue Legacy: I usually don't play platformers but this one is combat focused with RPG elements. The optional bosses are extremely difficult and satisfying to finally kill them. Got 35 hours out of it and it's really cheap.

Don't Starve: Really relaxing game where you collect and craft to survive and thrive. Lot of game systems to learn and plenty of hours of fun. The campaign mode is within the sandbox mode and is really difficult, but surviving and building nice bases in sandbox isn't too hard as long as you plan ahead and don't do anything crazy. Can play all day and not realize it.

I'll have to check out xenonauts. I have Xcom Declassified but haven't fired it up yet. I've been meaning to though.

Path of exile - awesome free to play game.

when I first installed it I was not expecting much from a free to play game. After putting 50+ hours into it, path of exile it is one of the best RPGs I have ever played.

I tried some Path of Exile, but I have D3 so I'd rather play it. The animations and general quality of Path of Exile was lower than the production quality of D3. Skill tree was insane looking though!

The Kohan Games (steam) If you like the CoH or Warhammer RTS style, this is the one they copied from. Been preaching the praises of this one for years, but maybe Im the only one who likes it.

I though we were talking about underrated games. Both Path of the Exile and Xenonauts have been well received.

Anyway, my contribution is NEO Scavenger, which is a fantastic game, very addictive and well worth the 75h of gameplay I've put into it, plus the dozens of hours I've spent watching LPs of it.

Darkest Dungeons is really impressing me. It is the most polished Early Access game that I've played. They could have released it as-is, in my opinion, and not gotten any grief.

Any RPG fan will love it.

Currently playing Kings Bounty Dark Side.....great fun. The game is a bit long though...seems longer than previous games in the series.

I was also going to say unknown games as well, but did not want to make my title thread too long, besides you could argue a lot of unknown games are those mentioned in this thread,as to underrated well that's really a personal opinion thing.

I updated my title thread.

I consider Xenonauts unknown and underrated due to the fact it's off most gamers radar, unlike the big well known games ie Bioware games for example.

It is not underrated, but the one game that really exceeded my expectations recently was Tomb Raider. Not really my type of game, but great graphics for the hardware needed and a lot of fun. Other than that, pretty much every game I have tried recently has failed to meet or exceed my expectations.

PAth of Exile is underrated and unknown? I think it's certainly well known by the target demographic (diablo fans). It also get decent review coverage and I see it advertised quite often.

I don't know if it is unknown or not, but I never see people talking about Tales of Maj'Eyal. I have somewhere around 500 hours put into that game over the past year and a half, and there was just a major expansion released recently that I haven't even started yet.

Don't think either of those are unknown or underrated. I mean sure, if you're a fan of FPS game then these games will be unknown to you, but for people like me who like RPGs, these two games have been in our radars for years. But yeah, they're great games :)

In my case I would say Victoria 2. I also play Europa Universalis 4 and Crusader Kings 2, but they are fairly well known. Victoria 2 on the other hand is not that well known, and yet it's really good once you learn to play it (just like CK2 and EU4).

If you'd like an MMO that's based on crafting, exploration and community cooperation, and has some creative ideas for gameplay, and no combat: A Tale in the Desert.

Small population, not even sure if it's still up, one man shop (he answered the phone when I called one time), monthly subscription. But I thought it had some good things.

Two good examples of how the game has achieving virtues as the activity:

- Create a sculpture others see, and vote good or bad on, you need a percentage of 'good'

- Collect a set of items that are worth a lot and store them in a chest with seven keys, given to seven players for 24 hours, to see it they steal, to see if you can judge people
