Underrail released today

Long wait, but it is already here, available on steam. I wish I could buy it, this game is one the few that makes me feel Im playing something like old Fallout games.

I knew I heard this title before, I remember watching some old alpha footage of it. Looks to be more of a Fallout sequel than where the actual series ended up. Thanks for the heads up on the release.

The non-rotatable isometric view of UnderRail is one of the things that keeps me from playing the original Fallout games now. Because the isometric view of walls frequently hides things that should be in plain sight, and I don't find lawnmowering a map to search for such things fun anymore.

3D models really do bring a lot of advantages to the table, and it's isn't 1997 anymore.

The DX9 port of Fallout has a hot key for item highlighting. I would assume Underrail has something similar, as it's become a standard feature for isometric games.

I did not know that. I have the GOG version - I guess that predates this improvement?
It's user made, so it's a free download. That said, I don't remember for sure which mod I used, I think it's Timeslip Fallout engine tweaks, but there is also the Fallout Hi-Res Patch. It didn't change the gameplay in any way, just added a few usability features like the item highlighting, and mouse wheel support.

For a one man team (later a 3 men team), 2d is easier, but I agree with you. I was working on an open source 3D RPG with isometric view that you can rotate, zoom, etc. Pretty easy to achieve with unity3d, but I had to leave it for a while, because I had some needs and community ignored my donation requests.
