correct verdict.

can we lock the thread now?

Probably the most intelligent statement in this whole thread ... and it came from an unlikely source. Sorry BM, but a lot of posters' lives centered on this case ... and posting in this thread. it will prob take a while for them to give up their habit.

Big thanks for everyone who kept the discussion interesting and on point. Special thanks to DVC for the legal insight. I learned a lot about the legal process during this case.

I hope the jury discusses their opinion after some time goes by.

Thanks. Book deals and/or Elite status would be more than welcome! :p

$340 an hour really don? thats like 700K a year. man I should have stayed on the ez side of campus (humanities instead of engineering)

That is whats being billed. Most attorneys make NO WHERE NEAR their hourly billable rate because of the tremendous amount of overhead. Lawyers that make real bank($500k/$1mm or more) are partners or civil litigators that win large judgements.

DVC, so what will be next?

Can TM parents sue GZ in civil court?

Can GZ sue NBC and other news outlet for editing and manipulating stuffs?

Give us the post game plan if you would.

I think GZ already brought up a case against NBC, NBC responded that they would fight in court over it.

Now it's time for the civil suit, which I assume he will lose. I doubt he has any money, so his wages will be garnished for the rest of his life. However, at least he's free. Now he just needs to keep a low profile and move far away.

Couldn't he file a countersuit against Martin's estate for battery?

MSLSD - African Americans are underrepresented on juries because if you commit a felony you cannot serve on a jury.

and she does not look happy..
No idea why. As somebody said today she was toeing the idiot line for cheddar, surely she didn't really believe what she was saying.

Isn't this Corey's first loss?

Unless the jury says they were very close to convicting, it vindicates all of the criticizers of this case that it was bullshit to begin with (as it seems to have been).

You have to remember something--those guys are in the top 5% of law school graduates in terms of income. (You could just as easily look at the top 1% of the highest paid of Art History graduates and say the same thing.) The majority of lawyers don't make nearly that kind of money and a great many are unemployed or underemployed-involuntarily-out-of-field (and often unemployable because they are overqualified for other jobs, aka "scarlet JDs").

Well, I'm pleased. This is the right verdict. It appears to me the jurors took their responsibilities seriously and considered the case carefully. I hope there is little or no rioting but in any event I believe justice was served here.

Could I by any chance get a point-form summary of why Zimmerman is not guilty? I haven't paid attention since the early days.

I don't make anywhere near that much - it's just that that is my hourly billing rate to clients.

That's a good point. Laypeople don't realize that lawyers also work many non-billable hours and have all sorts of business expenses. It's like looking at a store's revenue and then concluding that all of the revenue is profit.

Because the content is not as important as their contextualizing of it.

It's so fucking annoying. "the judge is now telling the defense that they shouldn't wear suspenders after the 4th" "ohh wait now she is sipping some vodka"

SHUT UP YOU FUCK AND LET ME LISTEN TO THE JUDGE.

ugh.

..sorry.
