Unable to change drivers from 40.41 -> 30.82?

I felt in the mood for UT2k3, I've been playing it for a while with no problem. Knowing UT2k3 has some issues with the new beta 40.41's, I wanted to see if there was a performance difference between the 40.41s and the 30.82s.

So I install the 30.82s, after doing so, I reboot. Upon finishing loading windows, just before it loads my desktop (auto-login), the computer just crashes hard, most of the time, no mouse cursor, sometimes a frozen mouse cursor.

Booted into safemode, uninstalled drivers, rebooted into Normal Windows just fine, installed drivers once again, reboot, still hangs before desktop. I try it one more time, same result.

Go back into Safe mode, uninstall drivers, reboot back into normal windows, and reinstall my 40.41s still on the HD. Successful boot.

Here I am posting now, and unable to play because I have to sleep now.

Wanting to get the rig running in "operational order", to run SETI during the night, and decided to ask here before I go to bed...

Why can't I change from 40.41s -> 30.32s?

I don't think its a problem with RivaTuner, as I have changed drivers with it before.

Thanks.

EDIT: Rig is in sig if you need specs.

I also run XP and have been switching drivers from the 40.41's but I do not run into any problems.

[*]add/remove programs, uninstall nvidia drivers
[*]reboot
[*]delete c:/nvidia folder
[*]installl new drivers

I just posted a thread for the new 31.40's and they work well.

Thanks John...

I'll try that exact procedure when I get home from school.

I've changed my drivers many times before like the way I did, not sure why its doing this.

Anyone else?

EDIT: Any threads on the 30.40s? How do they perform?

Just go back to the 30.82's. UT will look much better. The 40's cause a lot of color saturation making things look dull. There is no performance difference. Just in 3dmark.

Yes, that is what I am trying to do, but I cannot, the point of this post.

I suspect the problem you're encountering is due to not uninstalling the drivers and rebooting before installing the new ones. With Video drivers you should always remove the old ones first (taking you back to the default Std VGA drvr).

I had a very similar problem, and just unistalled the 40. drivers, then installed the 30.'s- have no problem now.
