If you go Here the same scanner is 54.99 @ their site. So, after rebate it's $29.99 <-(error corrected). Looks like you have to use the link above. Nice find whoever found it.

BTW, Insight had a similar deal a few months back on a 2010u (which is the european model of the 1600u). (See Here).

I purchased this scanner (2010u) and did get the rebate. My only complaint with insight is the scanner comes shipped in the factory carton--not a lot of protection there.

The scanner itself is very cheap. Mostly plastic internals. The light moves via a belt driven assembly, so, it's subject to rapid wear and tear. It's also very bulky and very slow--even w/ the USB interface it's no faster than parallel models of years past. So, keep this in mind--you get what you pay for. If you need a cheap scanner, this will certainly do the job, just don't expect quality.

Also, There were issues with W2K Drivers and this series (1600u/2010u).

Not quite. $54.99 - $25 MIR = $29.99. ;)

In any case, yes, it's a cheap scanner, but more than worth it for the final price of ~$23, IMHO. Moving to a Umax from a Microtek scanner is a step upwards anyway!

Well, I said I'd never buy another Umax after all the problems I had with my 1220U. But for this price, I can afford to try Umax again. I've been needing a decent home quality scanner for a while, and this qualifies (and at a price I'm willing to pay). Thanks so much for the deal.

Got the 2010U from Insight as well. Slow as hell...scan quality was mediocre, but the price was reasonable. Also, driver support for Win2k wasn't so hot.

Been replaced with the Epson Perfection 1200U from J&R.

FYI: I just got my rebate today in the mail for my UMAX Scanner I purchased from insight last time around (see link above). I sent the rebate back in October (~9th). Only took about 17weeks, but, at least I got it. Anyway, just wanted to give y'all some kind of idea on what to expect.

Didn't you bug them on the rebate hotline after about 2 and a half months or so? I would have given them an earful. The rebate says to wait 12 weeks (which is pretty long, most rebates are around 8 weeks), but 17 is simply nuts.
