Its sold for $80 in most places. Time will tell who's right. ;-)

They are very good PSUs, and the 3.3v rail is much stronger than a number of Antec PSUs I've used, allowing for higher memory overclocks. ;)

Back in stock. I ordered 1. For the price, the supply can't be beat. I will admit to having one and the fan seemed to not work correctly. Ultra shipped a new one out very quickly in advance. This also seemed to have a fan that did not work correctly. The supply itself seemed good, just the fans in these had some issues. Well, they eventually shipped me out an X2 which is an awesome supply. Well for the price I will try it out again. I believe they have taken care of the fan issues. Ultra's customer service is excellent, so if there should happen to be any problems, you would be taken care of.

Mine just arrived. Something may be wrong.

Packing didn't look sharp. Regular box, tape barely holding it closed, with packing paper stuffed on two sides of the smaller retail box.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3931/packing13ca.jpg

Crumpled among the packing paper was the invoice...
Nothing too strange at this point, as the retail box looked clean, sealed with clear plastic, and a gold 'lifetime warranty' seal. Looked like it wasn't opened since leaving factory.

All contents were there. The PSU is polished, which allows to see there are no fingerprints.
However, then I noticed this...

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7655/warranty26av.jpg

Was hard to photograph it due to glare tricking autofocus... so I placed some papers around the target:

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6623/warranty14vl.jpg

Its the warranty seal. "Warranty is Void if this seal is Broken". It appears to be broken. It has two layers - one being the clear lamination which seems to be intact, the other is the black paper which seems to be torn with edges facing into the crack.

Does this void the warranty?
Someone could have opened the PSU, breaking warranty, then carefuly taped-over some lamination?

Ultra tech support was fast to answer the call and reasonable - directing to first contact the retailer to ensure this is indeed brand new and ask for a replacement/refund.

I wonder how they will convince me that the warranty is still intact and the item is indeed new. >_>

I'm going to take this to a local Radioshack and find out. Opinions and Advice are welcome.

I ordered one but hasn't arrived yet... will let you know what comes my way. In the interim, I'd certainly request another one from Radio Shack. I can't imagine they'd give a hard time about it if you act right away.

Well I don't think these are carried in RS stores, so I don't know of how much help they'll be.

That's pretty weird about the broken seal. Mine doesn't have a clear lamination over it, just the seal. Is the seal actually broken or is it just creased? It had to have been something Ultra did if it still had the warranty seal on the box. I don't know what to tell you...

On a related note, my rebate has already been approved. :)

They are the same company and I plan to start out with a polite approach.

Mine does have lamination. Means that it is non-standard, which in turn means that its either some sort of correction/refurb at Ultra or someone broke the seal and tried to fix.

Is the seal actually broken or is it just creased?

The parts are separate, connected right under the lamination - like if you would tear it, then press it back into place and laminate over...

It had to have been something Ultra did if it still had the warranty seal on the box.

Yes, that golden warranty seal was there, and so was the factory wrap. Strange.

On a related note, my rebate has already been approved. :)

The deal seems to be good overall, I see my problem is an anomaly that should be handled through RS. Thank you for the feedback!

Does the fan run at a constant speed? Or is its RPM adjusted based on temperature?
How loud is the fan?

Hey, I just bought one of these 2 days ago and they shipped it last night. I can't wait to test it out. My current computer is running on a 250 watt Startech.com PSU from like 7 years ago. :( Fedex.com says it will arrive on the 27th. I hope I don't get one with a broken warrenty seal and a crappy box. By this time next week I'll hopefully be using that chromed goodness.

Thanks,
Billz

Power shutdowns during gameplay and normal high-load operations? I think I'll pass...

I looked for some reviews and couldn't find anything on it... anyone else have other reviews? If that guys accurate, this looks pretty cold.

Google is your friend'

All of the reviews say the PSU is stable and properly rated.

One person's store review hardly defines a product, especially since many such reviews are by idiots.

Love my Ultra X-Connect, I wouldn't change it for ANY PSU. This deal is mega smoking. The newer Infinities are awesome. I install Ultra's in every PC I build for people, unless they tell me "I want [brand] PSU!" Only had 1 problem out of maybe 150 pc's. And the latest models are a step up. At 50 bucks this would be a nice deal, 35 for a PSU that is highly underrated, and sh!t on by forum techies because it's not a Antec or OCZ is sick.
As for the one radio shack review, I'll assume at best he got a bad unit. But it's safe to say he doesn't know what he's doing. The reported Ultra problems make up a very small % compared to people like me who love their units. And the fanboys for any other PSU maker take every little bit of negative they can find on Ultra and blow it up to be "teh PSU's are teh sUx0rs!?!"

Beware!

I will never order from Radio Shack again. I order the PSU on the last day for the rebate. I never received my confirmation rebate from Radio Shack so I emailed them asking about my status. I got a response saying the power supply was delivered to my address the day BEFORE I purchased the power supply. After this strange email I called Radio Shack yesterday and spoke with a guy who could barely speak English and he told me my order was fine and that it would be shipped soon. Today I check my status and it says CANCELLED due to missing information. What a freaking run around. If they are just missing some information why not just call or email me for the missing info. Crazy

Anyone know how to get a receipt after the fact for a radio shack web order? I didn?t realize the one I printed out at purchase time has the right hand side cut off. They only give a simple packing slip with the shipment. I poked around on their web site and can review my order, but don?t have an option to print a new receipt. I?m worried they will try to screw me on the rebate because my receipt is missing some data.

Why would you call your credit card company before even attempting to resolve with the VAR or manufacturer?

No. Radio Shack online is very different from the retail stores. Much like Target vs. Target online. The online stuff is drop shipped from a warehouse and is often not also available in the retail stores. But I've heard of people getting very good service with calling the number on the invoice.

As has been mentioned in this thread (and on Ultra board) there is an issue with the fan on this thing. Mine started making a horrible noise under heavy load the day I got it, like it was hitting something as it was spinning, I've already replaced it with a different brand but haven't gotten around to calling Ultra yet.

Well you can probably call them and have them fax you one or something, but my rebate has already been approved and I sent in a copy of the packing slip, so you'll be fine.

I've had a couple of these PSUs, and no issues with the fan(s).

Regarding the rebate(s), I sent a copy of my order printed from the web site...approved without a problem.
