Maaaaan, i couldn't resist, i tried.....but i just bought one too. This should be a nice replacement for my old thermaltake Purepower 480watt that only has 18A on the 12V.

thanks OP. 🙂

yeah.. I'm interested in the noise of the fans.. does anyone know?

I have a coolermaster 600watt, but the 120MM fan is nothing quiet. it's a strong fan cooling my computer but a bit loud for my tastes ( i like it quiet).

80MM fans are rarely quieter than 120's and here you have two of them. Larger fans can move more CFM at lower RPM's. If you're not happy with the 120MM in a Cooler Master, you're certainly not going to be happy with two 80's.

I'm in for one. My PCP&C 400 is getting old and I'm having trouble with it now (R.I.P.) This is the third Ultra I've bought...always with nice rebates...My last one "popped" when I hooked it up...so I'm hoping this one is better.

I have a question about fans...

Would it be possible to swap out the fan with a better 80MM or 120MM one? I realize the 120MM wouldn't fit with without some type of adapter or mod...but I'm really curious about the power these PSU fans use. Are they DC or AC? (is that a dumb question?)

It's not the fan. It's the fan controller. You can swap out the fans all day long and it's not going to make much difference (-/+ 1 or 2db) because the fan controller in the PSU is what dictates how much voltage the fans get.

Just realize youll be paying more for this PSU than you would for a higher quality one through your electric bill. 😛 This PSU is like 70% or below on efficiency. So this actually will prolly end up being more expensive than a good quality $65 one. 😛 Just fyi...

I wonder how long it would have to run for it to use $65.00 worth of electricity more than a PSU that's 80+% efficient?

About 5 or 6 years.

omg, if the FAR 500w ultra v psu that im using is any indicator, this thing must kick ass! awesome deal here! i ordered one yesterday(dont want to deal with the possibility that theyll run out before the rebate expires and never get anymore in, id rather play it safe and pay the $7 or whatever lol), its supposed to get here on Thursday.

Hmmm, saw this a day or two ago and it had free shipping, but I didn't notice a rebate.

What's the likelihood of ever seeing this rebate fulfilled, at least, not without a lot of pissing and moaning? I inherently don't trust these types of deals, particularly from budget mfr's like Ultra.

You may be better off just going with the Truepower Trio for $65 (as previously posted), not that this doesn't appear to be a good PSU. Then again, I suppose there's nothing to lose.

Where do you come from with some bonehead speculative comment like this? Do you have any basis at all?

This is a hot deal free shipping or not

I just received my ultra $40 rebate yesterday ... and i sent it in 2 days late 🙂

I ordered one for a new system I am building.
Core 2 Duo 6420. Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. I am waiting for ATI to announce their dx10 video boards before finializing the configuration.

Rebate has been paid on time for me.
A bit of caution: My original 600w died within a year so I'm currently using the RMA'ed unit.
So you get what you pay for, in this case, almost zipped or nothing.

I have mine arriving on 5/10 via DHL. 🙂 FAR is too good to pass up. Shipped was a tad over $8.00. I hope this is a decent quality PSU.

I had to pay like $7 tax cuz I'm in Texas 🙁. Oh well, $15 is still a kick a$$ price for this PSU.

Again, as I clarified in the post following my OP, I was only referring to these FAR deals where the entire cost of the item is being covered by the rebate (I have just updated my original post now to make this clearer).

My basis, like everyone else on this board, is my own personal experience with various rebates from various manufacturers over the years.

I see nothing "boneheaded" in questioning when a manufacturer is essentially giving away its products for free (excluding promotional items). As Oakenfold suggested, presumably they are "trying to buy marketshare," but this doesn't sound like a sustainable, long-term business model.

It's good to hear that people have had positive experiences with the Ultra FAR deals thus far, making this an even more likeable deal (at least to those skeptics like me).

In fact, I've recommended it to a friend looking for a backup. So, thanks to the OP.

I would be skeptical as well, but I got an Ultra 500W PSU FAR (with free shipping) and got my rebate a lot sooner than I thought I would, and the PSU is working fine. I also got in on the FAR case deal (also with free shipping). While I haven't received my rebate for the case yet, I have received an email stating that the form was received and is being processed.

I really have no worries when it comes to ordering FAR Ultra products from Outpost.🙂

Now c'mon, free shipping, damnit!:|

Actually, It's safe to say that Fry's is still making some margin before rebate, so the rebate actually puts the product BELOW cost after rebate.

Like I said in my post, I confirmed with someone I know that this is a limited quantity of units sitting in Fry's warehouse in Ohio. They're being sold to help motivate revenue and liquidate overstock in an otherwise slow quarter for computer retail.

This was probably planned months ago and Frys is most likely making a normal margin.

Typically these FAR deals are demanded by the retailer. I.E. If you want to do business with us, we want 20 minor promotions, and 4 or 5 major promotions (like FAR with limited supply). Also, the retailer will also want the manufacturer to co-op the advertising costs to boot. The manufacturer does get their name out, so there is some benefit for the manufacturer.
