For groceries & basic houseware (toilet paper, cleaning supplies, hygene products, ect) I'll shop there anytime. They simply are one of the cheapest grocery stores around for the "staple" products.
That wasn't my experience when I gave it a go a couple years ago. I was feeling particularly butthurt about something, and decided 'eff it, I'm going to Wal-Mart and saving me some money'
First off there were lots of right wing nutter bumper stickers in the parking lot, which I found as bizarre as off-putting. Once inside, shit was all over the place with no rhyme or reason. The stuff that I thought I'd save money on - butter, milk, cereal etc. was all the same price as the GD grocery store. Once I had all my stuff, it took me like 20 minutes to get through the line. There were only 3 or 4 people in front of me, but the transactions went like this:
1. Cashier scans items
2. Customer hands cashier card
3. Cashier swipes card, looks at POS screen
4. Cashier looks up at customer and shakes her head no
5. Customer selects 2-3 items to remove from her purchase
6. Cashier scans the items to remove them, and tries the card again
7. Repeat steps 4-6
8. Repeat steps 4-6
9 Repeat steps 4-6
10.Hey! we finally have enough money. Giant receipt. Goodbye!
Never seen anything like it before. Most of the customers in front of me went through this exercise.
